I've just finished my 445nm Build in a Survival Laser "S4" host, and It's absolutely fantastic. It's my first "Higher power" build, and i'm really happy with how it turned out.
Here's the diode itself. It's an M140 diode from DTR's store, and damn, he ships these fast. Was the first part to arrive out of all of them:
Here's the set of parts that arrived, after assembly. sorry, no in-progress pics
The S4 host accepts a single 18650, two 16340, or, with an extension tube (which I definitely got) two 18650 cells.
Most people don't realize how SMALL the S4 actually is. It's actually kind of adorable, honestly.
With the battery extension tube, it's quite a bit longer, and looks more like a billy club or something.
I'm loving the business end of this. It's a beautifully crafted host, highly recommend it!
Obligatory beam shots, with fog created by heating Vegetable Glycerin on a hotplate:
Low power, single 18650 Cell:
High power, two 16340 cells (it's roughly the same with two 18650 cells, just lower runtime)
Portable DVD player carrying case. Works really well for carrying the pointer and all of the things that go along with it. Need to carve out a foam insert for the pointer itself later. Vegetable Glycerin is really useful for bringing the beam out!
All in, it ran about ~210 shipped. Not bad at all considering this outputs roughly ~1.5Watt+ (no LPM) on high power. Much thanks to DTR for the fantastic diode, Survival Laser USA for the host, and the LPF forums for help with getting the right stuff that I needed to build it!
