Look at this 60W burn...

i saw on pl some one got some sand on there galvo mirrors and the laser melted it on.

I saw the plume of debris strike the lens and I just cringed. It's one thing with a $5 lens, but CO[sub]2[/sub] lenses are 20 times that. Very neat video. I may have to try some rocks later.

another awesome infrared build from bill :p did you finish part 3 after?

I decided to switch to a different 60W laser for some variety. I got it working, but haven't finished shooting all of the video clips that I want in order to make more videos. I'l be posting more soon onto youtube.

hm, i looked into buying one of those 60W diode arrays/bars.......
*rethinking the decision to wait....*

:P

but really, great job and nice video :)

Nonsense. Skin reflects/disperses most of the IR. Those with NIR burners can attest to that.

That's CRAZY!! The knife blade must reach about 1200°C I love how the metal bursts into sparks :D Are those lenses convex on a single axis to fix the bar shape output?

Yea but come on...If 0.5% gets absorbed you're gonna feel it.

I put my hand in front of my 60 watt 808nm laser all the time. On low/medium powers it just feels like a gentle warmth. At full power it's just a heat that can get uncomfortable if you stand there for a while. Considering it lights electrical tape on fire without a lens I'd say that's a pretty insignificant power absorbtion

Just don't try that with a 10,6um IR laser... A 16W Synrad, even unfocused, instantly sets fire to anything organic, paint, paper etc. from 3m/10 feet!
