Light still being emitted from laser even when off

Hy guys, firstly I'm very new to this hobby and these are my first lasers above 5mw I've ever had. Yes, I got Wicked Lasers and am aware of the bad reputation they have and experienced my fair share of issues with them. But anyways....

So I got the red and purple Nano lasers.

I am very satisfied with them except for this one issue. On the purple laser, everything functions properly however when it is off, there is (barely noticeable, but still noticeable) a little bit of purple light that emits from the aperture. It only does this when batteries are in it. I've tried a different end cap, different batteries, and it made no difference.

Here's the image:

Is it normal for this laser? the red one doesn't do this, just the purple one. And if not, do I need to be worried about it constantly emitting light (radiation or other safety concern)? And is this something that I should try and get fixed or is it no big deal? What causes this to happen?

I have contacted W.L. but I expect them to not help me as I've had almost nothing but negative experience with them so I am considering any further assistance and the warranty with them to be absent.

To you laser experts, thank you for any information.

The nano is a side switch laser correct? One thing that occurs to me is it might be possible that there is the slightest little short that is allowing a small amount of current through when off? Or maybe the driver has something wrong with it.

Yup looks like leakage current that's below lasing threshold. Just store it with the batts removed. If it functions normally aside from that it isn't worth losing it trying to RMA.

In what way did you have bad experiences with WL? I am curios as I am on the brink of spending more than 1k on WL stuff.

need to be worried about it constantly emitting light (radiation or other safety concern)?
Laser light is not ionizing radiation (unless we make a far uv laser [I foresee portable skin cancer in the future]). it poses no more (radiation) risk to you than an ordinary light bulb

that does not sound like a serious explanation. I have read what others have to say but I am curious to your personal experience. But when you don't want to help me don't bother. It only shows me that I can't take your critic, you stated before, into account when I am making my decisions. I am here to learn from other users experiences and where possible help others.

If you want to know my personal experience,
I have never bought anything from WL
because I don't want to waste my money.
I'm trying to help you out by telling you
to do a search. It isn't a difficult thing
to type a few letters into the search bar.
It takes much less effort than posting an
entire reply. It's your choice weather or
not to take this advice and potentially
learn something.

I was confused Lightning Stalker when you quoted my first question and answered it. I thought you where the initial poster of this topic ;-)
But anyway thanks for your reply :-)
But I still hope that MemoryDecipher will post his real life and recent experience.

Back in 2007 I ordered from WL, this is back when they were still "ok". I got a core that was unstable as hell and my "200mW" green turned out to be 97mW peak and TEM10.

I've never bought from WL but everybody talks bad about them. Examples: parcel never
arrives, wrong product, 5 month delivery wait, under spec to list just a few. Why can't you use the search. If I was to give an answer like your asking for I'd go to Google and find examples, c & p, and that would take much longer than you doing it for your own question.

Allow me to clear up the MYTHS about Wicked Lasers right now. Granted, their first few years were rocky as they were the ONLY ones making such powerful and RECORD BREAKING handheld lasers, but in 2014, their customer service is now exceptional. I ordered all four S3 lasers and some accessories for a grand total of $2100. They always pick up the phone and return e-mails within a day. After they had my money, I asked if they would throw in a flashlight attachment for free and they DID. They certainly didn't have to! That's a $50 value. They said it would be delivered in 1-3 weeks and it was. The products are amazing and I feel like a God when using them. I'm sick of people crapping on this company based on obsolete experiences from four years ago.

Wicked Lasers never had a record breaking laser......

Care to explain WHY they're in the Guinness Book of Records then?

And what about everything else I said? No defense?
