I'd like to know how to add one. I found ONE thread while searching, but it confused me... I'd like to add one to a rckstr driver (if possible) pics would probably be better than words. Thank you to all that help :D

Don't exactly understand why you need to add a led for see if a laser diode is on (except if the LD is IR, ofcourse), but the more simple way is just attach the led (with his resistor) in parallel to the driver, so when you power up the driver, also the led turns on .....

Otherwise, i really don't understand what you're exactly asking, sorry.

I have an IR diode from a GGW sled, and I'd like to put it to some use, but I'd also like an LED indicator to show that it's in use. I'll also be getting an IR diode from an LPC sled that should be ariving this week, And I will replace the GGW IR with that one. I just want to have one running for now.

So, in a nutshell, I need to know how to add an LED indicator to a rckstr microdrive V3 for an IR build :D

Its pretty easy, just solder two extra wires onto the board and use those as the positive and negative for the LED.
You will need a resistor to keep the LED from killing itself. You can use a table like this to find out what resistance you need.

LED calculator for single LEDs

A typical LED diode current is 20-30mA, but you can go lower to make it dimmer. Most red and yellow LEDs voltages are 2.2V. Green, blue, and white are usually 3.6V. You should know the correct values to use based on the info that came with the LED though.

If you want to know exactly what you are doing, it is called adding a circuit in parallel. You can search around and find out exactly how it works.

you could in theory. but you know how fragile the pins are. it is ill advised.

That is what you need.

you cant put the ld on the out put side. place it in paralell at the inpput.
cheers
