drlava,
When are you going to repair my driver? Sorry for all the questions and PM's but this is getting a little annoying..

Jimmymcjimjim, The repairs to broken drivers take a back seat to shipping new ones, but it'll get done. You damaged it pretty well, there are a few parts that appear overheated from soldering but don't worry. I'll have more time this weekend and it'll be completed then.

Here's a suggestion to you and others out there, if you don't have one already, get one of those 'helping hands' devices, they really are the best way to hold your work while soldering! Prevent slips, lost parts, and they can be grounded to aid in static discharge prevention.

Hey there Dr. Lava,

For the second time now I have some how burned out a lava drive v3 in my kyrton barrel powering a 6x blu-ray. I dont know what is happening. At first i thought i just may have had a dud driver but now that the second one has burned out i dont know what to do. I am powering the driver with a 18650 2400mA battery with a set output on from the driver at 187mA. The diodes remain unharmed but the drivers just poop out. Could you please help me resolve this issue or help me pinpoint what might be happening to my drivers? Maybe there are contacts in my host where the +,- terminals are touching one another? Such as the result from a faulty power button on the pointer (which my kryton barrel has...)

-Paul

thanks

Just ordered a v4 for my 8x blu-ray custom host build, shipped within 24 hours. Great service, will post some pics of those project when done in blu-ray section. I will definentally be ordering more if this build works out.

if the +/- terminals are touching occasionally, that could definitely cause a problem. I'll send a PM.

Dr. Lava is a tracking number provided when we buy or you ship the driver?

Will this driver solder right to a phr blu ray?
Also will i be able to run 2 3.6v cr2's or will i have to get regular 3.0's?

boosted_4cyl,
The driver has an input of 5.5V maximum. You cannot use 2 3.6v CR2's, or even 2 3.0V CR2's. You can use one CR2, or use a bigger battery such as a 18650.

Hey Jim, I pretty sure you can use 6V if you put a diode in series with the input to lower the voltage.

I just got my Flex driver. Took about 3 days from the time I ordered till it was at my door. AMAZING service.
I even jumped the resistors and soldered on the wires without damaging it. Powers my 8x at about 370mA from one 18650. The pot is touchy but got it adjusted finally.
I need two more for my 7 color pocket spiro build, drlava do you need any custom machine work done that you would trade for two drivers? If not I will just order them.

Drlava
I was wondering what Ic is used in this driver(V4). I am currently investigating the LTC3529 and the max711 as possible step-up's for a driver. I have ordered some samples of these, have you ever worked with these ic's before? If so do you have any insight?

Hi Ian, yes I currently have them in stock.

Hi Ramsey, I haven't worked with those ICs, sorry. If you are planning on building a step up for the new 8x 405nm, it might save you some trouble to know that I'm completing the design for a new driver for the 8x right now. :) Should be ready by August.
Do you have a website for ramsey innovations?

I'm not really looking to sell anything, I'm very busy with other things as well (no I don't have site :( ). I am just trying some different options (mostly b/c samples are free!!!) and thought I may be able to come up with something new so that someone with more time like you can "take it all the way". Glad to hear about the new 8x driver coming. I'll be happy to share any info I can come up with on these IC's.

P.S. I'm thinking the max711 should work well given the two modes, max efficiency and min noise, as well as 1.8v to 11v input range!

Okay I got my new driver today that I had preset to 200ma . Everything seemed fine at first but when I hooked up the driver to test the current I get no reading what so ever on the multimeter. I also hooked it up to my diode (a 6x blu-ray) and I got no output from that either. I already checked and resoldered all my connections and everything is good, so it must be the driver. This is the second driver I have had problems with and I am getting very frustrated. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.
