Lathes in Aus?

Hey guys,

I've got a project where I'll need to put a D shaft sprocket onto a regular RC brushless motor. The problem is, the motor shafts are usually hardened, and so using a regular die to try tap it would be a painful and probably unsuccessful process. So is there anyone in Aus with a lathe that could possibly cut some threads into a motor shaft for me?

Cheers,
Dan

lol, contacted bobhaha and he said he could do it for me. Decided to use a regular propeller adapter that comes with the motor instead though, so I don't have to modify the motor. Just the prop adapter is 10mm and I need 8mm, but it's made of alu so bob can just turn it down to 8mm, then I should be able to thread it and file a D key in:)

Just an fyi for future reference: If the shaft is case hardened or is hard enough that a file wont cut it, then using a lathe might be an exercise in futility. I know its possible to turn down hardened shafts, but I don't know how well it would work cutting threads. Its even worse if its an interrupted cut.

On the other hand, if its just tempered alloy steel and a file cuts it without issue, then a High Speed Steel tap and die wont have much issue with it.
