Hey im new to the laser scene. Just looking at lasers on dealextreme.com and wickedlasers.com and am wondering what power would get through customs. And which is the best colour to get?

All advice welcomed
Thanks in advance :D

Getting lasers into Aus is a bit of a gamble, however customs are pretty efficient at picking them up. To make sure it gets thru, it would need to be <1mW.

With WL, I think they will give you a refund/send another if it gets stuck in customs.

I've successfully imported lasers above 1mW.

I did it through rayfoss and o-like, and got the tailcap and batteries shipped separately.

If they cant test them, i dont think they can legally seize them.

So whats the best bet to getting lasers in? and should i only try for a 1mW one?

Probably dont try to get lasers in... learn about the hobby abit, then buy the individual parts or modules and build them yrself! Customs are pretty good at their job!

Haha that would be the smart option. But if i tried to get a 1mW laser in and it was seized what would be the worst thing that would happen?

Just a heads up, Customs do have a laser power meter, so if they find it, and it's over 1mW, don't expect to receive it!

If they take it, they usually just send on a note saying it was taken, they don't usually take any action unless you are a repeat offender, or it's something serious like explosives.

i have spoken with many people who do as axit says and get the batteries+tailcap seperately.
That way even if they had batteries they would have no tailcap/switch to operate it.
btw my o-like laser came with a warning sticker on with multiple strengths on it without the correct one marked, i think this is another way of trying to disguise the fact that it is a 200mw laser.

Alright, So probably the best idea is to buy one under 1mW and get parts shipped separate
Any other ideas?

the best bet for a high powered greenie in to aus is to buy a green module from olike then buy a host and batteries from a member here.

1mW is practically nothing. If you buy a module, not a complete laser, it shouldn't get seized because it is not technically a laser pointer yet. It's just one component.

Then you can buy a host for the module separately and build it yourself.

O-like modules:
Green laser : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

You can get a host for the O-like modules here:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-diy-green-kit-host-heatsink-easy-assembly-22520.html

or you can have Ehgemus make you a custom host for the O-like modules.

I have a Ehgemus laser and they are beautifly machined and for a great price!
