Lasers and solid core side glow fiber optics?

Can a laser be used to light a solid core side glow fiber optic like -> this one <- ???

Can be tried with 405nm, but i have no fibers around for test them myself.

Hey, if it work, can be a special christmas tree decoration ..... already imagining some pieces of fibers, in multi color types, each one powered from a PHR, and all the diodes driven from a random or sequential controller ..... sure can be unusual enough for draw some attention

I used the 1mm and the 2mm fiber about 15' of both and it works great with my rpl : ) plus if you get the end cut right you can also burn things with the end of the optic fiber : )

Yes, but the ones that the OP talk about, are those fibers that glows for al the lenght, as light cables ..... i only don't know if the fiber glow for lateral diffusion of the light (and in this case a BR can do very few), or if the coating material is fluorescent / gitd type (and in this case, a BR can light them good, probably)

If is just a linear diffuser, need a high power for light them in the same way as with their leds .....

I know mine glow good with 450mw of green : ) even better with 1.8W : )
But I get what you're saying and to me I think it's just a normal fiber that they have 16W of LED power going through and if you think about it that's quite a bit.

You can also try fluorescent fibers and or if you just want that kind of light bendable light, electroluminescent wire might fit the bill.

Yes the fluorescent fibers are bright under a uv light. I had to buy them to re do the 5 pen sight on my bow so I have a few extra inches left over if you're anted to test it out before you bought a lot.

Led is obvious but laser would just be sweet.
And no, it's not a lightsaber.

I'm pretty sure by "uv inhibitors," they mean an equivalent to sunblock so that UV does not degrade the polymer it is made of. I should still pass 405nm light easily.
