Laserpointer 100mw green from Thailand. Problems with the eyes?

Hello,

i bought some laserpointer green light 100 mw from thailand at the beach and played a lot with it. now i read that it could be harmful for my eyes. i never looked into the laser, but i looked at the spot sometimes. i used it the last time one week ago.

now i am a little bit frightened about this. do you think my eyes are ok, because i am still having no problems or can the damage occure in later time? '(maybe one week, maybe 1 year...)

If you didn't hit yourself in the eye with the laser, I think you are OK. You would know immediately if your eyes were damaged with a laser.

When i saw the green picture i was extremely shocked because i saw hundrets of black spots. Then i noticed that my screen was full of dust *gg* lol.:bumpit:

but i still dont think that this laser has really 100mw because they want to make money. :tsk:
it is a funny thing but should be handled with much care. i bought it for 600 baht, its about € 13.

Get some Laser Safety Goggles if you are planning to use
a >5-10mW Laser and use them..
It is that simple.... and NEVER look directly into the beam...

Dont let the price fool you either - chinese lasers are driver across the border in those parts with few problems.

Looking at the 100 mW dot shouldn't be that much of a problem on matte surfaces, but do be careful about the beam itself! There are plenty of $10 or so lasers out there that will cause eye danage when viewed directly, and those do make it onto thai flea markets too.

Go have a beer on khao san or in patpong and forget about the lasers for a bit

Just an aside. When he says "look for black spots when looking at that square" -- Don't get obsessed with floaters.

"Floaters", translucent thread or blob like things that wash across your vision, are not vision damage. They're due to proteins separating in the eye and they happen as you age.

MANY "laser guys" think they've got "hit" because they start noticing floaters. What really goes on is, you start paying attention to your vision and, you say "Hey. Floaters." - and you become kind of obsessed with them.

Floaters are usually not laser eye damage.

Just wanted to say that, before some people got in the obsessive cycle that a few people (including myself a few years back when I thought I got 'hit' by a Sonet fiber 808nm beam) get into, to save them some stress.

I see alot of blurry spots. Is that normal?

Are the blurry spots shaped like floaters?

Or are they circular and blurry and remain in your vision with your eyes closed, like when you look at the sun and get a retinal "stain"?
