Slicing of the beam would not actually work. The long axis of the beam profile at distance is the short axis at the aperture. It diverges faster, exactly because it's smaller at aperture. So if you cut the beam at aperture (make it square), at distance it will make line which is same length, just thinner.

well fair enough its just annoying for me to see 445-447 switching around all the time :)

We've determined that the central wavelength at standard temperature is closer to 447 nm, not 445 nm. Admittedly, the difference is somewhat academic since it does vary with temperature, but since all of our other diode lasers are rated at standard temperature this is more consistent and therefore more correct.
