Re: Laserfocusworld Magazine

I saw those modules too! they looked really cool... just a 5.6mm dia diode base and an extra long can for both crystals! i wonder if they will do a higher power version in the to-5 9mm package?..... or maybe even a blue one in a to-3 package :D. I think i read that they were researching into making the green diodes in two wavelengths close to 532nm and another around the optimum 555nm? :) I cant wait!

I'm glad someone else saw them... 50mW green from something that small is impressive! I bet someone will make a ~500mW 12mm deal soon with all fixed optics, not these cheap green modules with lots of wasted space. Power can only go up, right ?

Re: Laserfocusworld Magazine

500mw in a 12mm package! errrm mayb if its made of copper or even gold lol u must have seen the heatsinks they use for the 500mw greens?
all we can hope for is the power goes up and they put rele small long tecs in them for heat :) now that i think about it..... how powerfull would the pump be .... 1watt 808?? unless they are using higher quality crystals or something. even then ur gonna need to tec those little modules like mad? i just wanna c it done with a 473nm!! :D

Re: Laserfocusworld Magazine

I saw some 5.6mm micro-532nm modules for sale, but they were super-long canned, and probably prototypes. They were in the google ad links, but I can't seem to find them again! :( also, aren't the "green" diodes they're working on closer to 555nm (brightest color :) )?

will

They are made by a local company Photop, full DPSS in a can.

Re: Laserfocusworld Magazine

$12.50! Thats like the cost of a good porn magazine.
It better have a hot centerfold to hang on my wall;)

Re: Laserfocusworld Magazine

Good luck, this mag is so technical I imagine it's targeted directly at engineers.

I'll quote a sentence at random, you tell me if it's technical or not.

"Spectral green emissions is readily achieved by increasing the InN fraction in the GaInN alloy of the quantum wells, yet epitaxial growth is tricky"

That sentence is, in a nutshell, what I do for a living at the moment.

So no, it's not too technical ;)

LOL, nah, it is a bit technical, especially if you've never seen such things before. It was definitely intimidating to me at first, but it's like everything else: once you learn it and have that knowledge, it changes everything.

Which issue is that article in? Who wrote it and who are they talking about in the article?

Re: Laserfocusworld Magazine

Read enough of the technical jargon (sorry for calling it jargon to any1 it would offend) and you can translate it into simple speak :)

"Spectral green emissions is readily achieved by increasing the InN fraction in the GaInN alloy of the quantum wells, yet epitaxial growth is tricky"
=
"change the dopants (InN) of the blu-ray diode and uve got green!"

kind of :)

i hope that vagueness doesnt offend lol :)

You know, silver has a thermal transfer effectiveness ~15% higher than gold if I remember. So yeah, it would have to be really well sinked, but I imagine it wouldn't be that hard. If we can cheaply get 200mW or higher in a 12mm package, imagine what some money and time could do :D

Re: Laserfocusworld Magazine

Man, I get this shit for free every month. I get like 10 different magazines and crap I never read or signed up for. If you go to a trade show like Photonics West or CLEO, they automatically send you the copies for free.

Unfortunately that means I can either fly out to a trade show for a free subscription for about $1k, or subscribe for $150.

Or we could arrange to pass mine around so people can read them after I am done.

I'll volunteer to be first in line. I'll gladly pay postage.

Re: Laserfocusworld Magazine

Done, send me a PM with details.

The only thing I ask is we keep this ON BOARD out in the open.

That way each member is responsible to openly post where the mags are.

Also, I ask that we limit this to members with solid reps.

what should be an acceptable time frame for each member to keep and read them??

I don't want them back, once they enter into this group "library loan" they are the property of THE LPF family.

I'd say 1 month, I can read it 3 or 4 times by then.(might have to, in order to comprehend it all) LOL
Sending PM:thanks:

Re: Laserfocusworld Magazine

Folks, 3 copies of LFW mag shipping out to Florida in Mondays mail.

Then within 1 month, they will move to the next member.

The list will be first come first served, so ask now to be next......... GO!

If i knew where i would be in a few months i would love to ask if i could join in... but unfortunately i don't. what do you consider a solid rep by the way? i joined at roughly the same time as you but havn't posted nearly as much due to other things going on. thanks :)
