I do not feel too comfortable for 'lazy' people/young kids being able to create high powered lasers that they can use to blind/seriously hurt someone with.
Uhu, that's the one reservation I had as well. Very useful for people who can take care of themselves and know what they're getting themselves into, but a slippery slope for reckless people.

There is also no "set" way to make a laser. Unless you are referring to a, batteries, driver, diode, lense, heatsink kind of laser.
Yep, that's what I was referring to. A very simple laser with just 1 color. Nothing fancy :)

If anyone could take a look at the list of drivers / list of diodes and tell me what's missing that would be a great help :)

I'm going to try to work on this more and get all the drivers + all the diodes done.

Easily available diodes:

Blue (maybe we should split 440-455nm and 455nm to 475nm)
NDB7A75 (445nm)
NDB7675 (462nm)
M462 (462nm)

Violet
S06J 12X

Red (630nm-645nm)
HL63193MG
ML520G71
ML501P73
HL63133DG

FLD6A2TK (Red 685nm)

Green (510nm-530nm)
PL515
PLP520-B1
PLP520-B2

That would be cool however I do not feel too comfortable for 'lazy' people/young kids being able to create high powered lasers that they can use to blind/seriously hurt someone with.

Lazy people would just buy one. It's far easier to get a laser from LPF than build one from scratch :p

Gotcha there, paintrane. Took down one or two misspells.;)
Do you guys think that showing DTR's website on the wiki's ok?
I'll be information-pumping soon.:D

I agree that lazy people would just buy one, lazy people are also the ones that can't be bothered to read research search and learn, and they know nothing of electronics because its too complicated, these are the people that just want to be spoon fed.

I really want to try and spiff up the wiki to make it more "visual", so I started off by making several templates of the light spectrum and after several hours I think I finally came up with a good addition. I tediously made a spectrum chart (which is very precise, 2 pixels = 1nm) that I think will make the diode pages look awesome! What do you guys think? Should I add a spectrum chart to each diode according to its color? Here is an example: M140 diode page

Looks really good although I just noticed that no one added the wl fluctuation so I added that. It might be good to also add that to those sweet looking color graphs.

Nice Paintrane!

The spectrum looks good but it could be smaller.

Don't take me wrong but I don't think you should add that wavelength "fluctuation" unless it's on the diode datasheet or you have performed experiments/collected data to back it. For the M140 I'm sure there are samples > 450nm out there.

Ok, so what I'll do is make the image thinner (crop it vertically) so that it doesn't make the page look too busy, and then I will start adding it to each diode page. I suppose I can also crop it horizontally but I don't really want to lose the IR spectrum because some diodes use it. I'll make the changes and await your feedback.

About the wavelength fluctuation: I think it can be confusing to "newer" people who are looking for info and don't fully understand everything yet. But that's just me. I think simple is better.

Great guys, going smoothly.
Thinking about a few build tutorials, anyone have any advice?

I see where you guys are comin from but maybe we could start making a new section dedicated to the operation and physics around our precious lasers. I can start working on this.

Good work everyone!

As far as build tutorials go, we would need to find a good tutorial format that is well organized, plus high resolution and macro photos would be awesome!!! As the wiki states, be bold!

I agree, I think having a section for how lasers operate would be great.

I'm also nearly finished adding the color spectrum graphs to each laser diode, just an update on that ;) I love going from page to page being able to see the variation in color for each diode :D

So far I have done:

PHR-805t
GGW-H20L
SF-AW210
BDR-S03
BDR-203
BDR-205
BDR-209
