LOL, yes I'm serious, I recently have been playing around with a some copper wire, a zinc plated nail, and you guessed it, a citrus fruit. ;D

I'm using Mikan, which in Louisiana is referred to as a "Satsuma". My five trees have so much fruit on them that the limbs have broke. :o So I decided to see what all I could do with them.

After I put the zinc plated nail, and copper in the satsuma, I got out my multimeter, it registered 2.2volt @ .25 amps, then it dropped to a sustained output of 1.8 @ .18 amps. That's not bad for a fruit!

So it got me wondering, what if I plugged in ten or so satsumas into a 12volt regulator, or even a 5volt for charging my ipod? ;D

Has anyone ever tried to power a laser, or anything else with a citrus fruit?

cool could use limes for a greenie

hook 1 or 2 upto a red diode and see what happens

Well now you can let your local grocer know what the internal resistance of a satsuma is. Happy day... ::) LOL

That should be one of the things they include by the Nutrition Facts label. (Using Zinc and Iron plates, you can expect .25 volts, up to 5ma of current and an internal resistance of xxx ohms.)

hahaha spam filter...

Ok what did you say to set the spam filter off??? :D ;D ;D

does that work?

sorry /endspam.

three x's and you have a winner!

Well, I have tried this in physics with one of those little 3v light bulbs, no LD's at the time :(
We managed 32v from LOADS or potatoes all in series..
But alas, 12 potatoes in parallel was not enough to light the bulb.. the current was WAY to low :(

A quick search shows that a human nervous system is not powerful enough to be used to power a laser... Damn... ;D
