"Polycephaly is a condition of having more than one head" 8-) - Wikipedia

Well, I took my broken minimag and some cheap a$$ Japanese LED flashlight with 3xAA (bought for $3 at some street stand in Akihabara) and this is the result:

I changed my lasers in both heads. The laser in the blue head moved to the silver head and I've put my burner in the blue.

The burner could not be driven using LM317 with 4.5V. I carefully measured the U-I response curve of the burner diode and realized it might be able to work without a driver at all, but with a series resistor. I took the risk and used a 5.6 Ohm series resistor to limit the current at 200mA (underpowered). According to the response graph, it now emits 100mW.

Nice, you should solder a capacitor too for a little bit more protection.

actually the driver in this particular minimag is regulated since it's an LED in this one.

You two make me wanna do a polychephawhatchmacallit too. :P

Nice work. :)

Peace,
dave

I've been trying to sell my pair for a while now.  Nobody values a lower powered bluray and a lower powered red combo nowadays.
And for an additional $20 I'll throw in the flashlight head as well.  LOL so then it will be 3 heads.

IGorT and I were talking about this yesterday. Two months ago people were babying their PS3 diodes to keep them from blowing and scraping $300 together for a 6X. Now even my dog has a blu-ray ;)

I would be making one (two?) just to say I did it.

Peace,
dave

At the time I thought of this it was already soldered shut, and I didn't feel like opening it again. It should be safe anyways for slight over voltage as it operates only on 200mA.

eehm polychephawhatchmacallit..... wut??

Oohh!!!! NVM then, I thought it was one of the normal crappy mini mags. ;D
