Hello,

I'm new to this forum. I purchased a sd-302 laser from dx (SD-302 5mW 532nm Green Laser Pointer - Black (1 x 18650) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme) and I noticed to late that they are only 5mw. I have a 200mw other laserpen. I saw that I could purchase modules to amp up this sd-302.

I'm wondering if any size of module would fit in it and up to what kind of mw i could purchase one? I really want a heavy burner, but im not really the mechanic type so the fewest solding and installing would suit me best :)

Can i just open the pointer and change the module for another one I could find on Ebay for example? I'd love to have a 1-3W one or something like that.

first off you will never get a 1-3W 532nm laser and if you want one you better take a loan out because they will run you roughly $3,000!!!!

Second, i dont think you mean module. modules hold diodes in lasers and a 532nm doesnt have a diode since its DPSS. you may mean driver but even then its not worth it.

Finally, although its advertised as a 5mW, it will likely be 50-100mW since TRUE 5mW are expensive to produce as well.

side note, how do you know you have a 200mW laser pen? 200mW in a laser pen is rare and wont last very long since there is no heat sinking in a laser pen
 
Thank you for all the advices. Well I bought it of a website in my country. I used my companies name since they said they could only provide it if I did that. This is the link sorry since it is in dutch Professionele groene 200mW laserpen, it burns matches/balloons/tape all the stuff you see on youtubes. Dx laser doesn't burn at all so I assumed it was as it said only 5mw. Is there any way to test the true watt's without having a test machine?
 
Hmm but if these things are as expensive as you tell me, what is a cheap way to get a big handhold lasertorch as I see on these forums?
 
lasers are not cheap. the only way to tell output is by testing it on a LPM.

you can pop a balloon with a 50mW 532nm laser if the beam is focused properly. just because the DX laser says it doesnt do that stuff doesnt mean it wont be over spec and really 50-100mW

to get high powered 532nm (200mW +) or low powered (exactly 5mW) it is expensive but the lasers DX sell are cheap chinese mass produced lasers so they dont know nor can they regulate the power output.
 
there are actually green modules. you can buy them everywhere. they are the usually brass with a driver attached, and no host.

Well i bought the class 3b laserpen with 200mw output as a high powered one for around 100 dollar. What a is a decent price for a 1-2W one? and if they aren't focussed well how can i focus a laser?
 
I did see 3W green laser modules with a green laser diode and a driver attached to it on ebay for around 140 dollar. I can't just fit that into the case of the sd302 that i bought on dx?

would love to see this 3W 532nm module you speak of
 
All i know from googling is that NM is the wavelength but what it does to the laser. No clue
 
no that wont fit in there. if you want to buy a host that fits that module then go HERE and buy that with THIS diode (pick the $60 or $90 version) and you will have yourself a 1-1.5W 445nm laser. DONT FORGET to purchase proper safety glasses or you will go blind.

As i said before, lasers are expensive. You could always buy a 1-2W laser from Blord for $100-$200
 
Issue is though if i buy a complete one from Blord, it probably wouldn't go through customs in my country. So i probably have to get the DIY kit
