Laser Eye Damage

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Why do people keep thinking that my 5mW Lyra is 10mW!

Oh, um sorry bout that. Basically, Lyras might peak 6-7 mW, and they are more of true and tested unlike most <5mW lasers.

Does a 1-2 mW laser pose much less of a threat to your eyes than a 4-5 mW laser?
 





the fact is that 90% of 5mw lasers can peak over 10mW, i've read about dx 5mW being 30mW or more, tahts why you can't be sure.

Anyways try to get a doctor, you maybe had bad luck.

bythe way, the symptoms you talk about are more likely cataracts or any other thing, yes, it's really hard that just whe nyou buy a laser and hit your eyes you get some of those things, but it's psobile, the symptoms you describe can be due to many things.
 
Eat carrots and try to forget about it. If you really believe its 'damage' you want to go see an eye doctor asap, but there are things floating in your eyes that might appear to be a dark spot.
 
Update:

The Optometrist is seeing me Sunday. The dot appears less and less times each day and it's not as dark and as big. I think it might be healing.
 
Does the dot seem to move or does it stay sill?

if it moves it is probly a "floater" this is a dead blood vessel in the eyeand is normal accourdinfg to my optition

When it appears, if I quickly move my eyes to look somewhere else it appears then fades away in a few seconds. I have some actual floaters, but the dot is a perfect dot. I can't tell that good if it moves but I'll do some more "tests" when it appears again.
 
GOOD NEWS UPDATE

I had my Optometrist appointment today. After the annoying thing where the big puff of air gets shot in each of your eyes, the doctor asked me questions about the problem and I told him what was going on. He used the really bright light to look into each of my eyes, especially my right eye because that's the one I see the dot with (which made it really hurt afterward). He couldn't see any damage but said it was possible it was minor damage that he couldn't see, and he said that it could be healing. Also, my vision tests showed that I had 20-20 vision.

Overall good news and I'll be hoping it completely heals.
 
Good to hear it all checked out! Makes me wonder how many people walk in with eye problems due to lasers though...

Its difficult to gauge such things by a description of how they appear in vision. 'Floaters' typically refer to anything in the vitreous humor, which can be totally innocent but also result of a serious condition. For example, sudden appearance of many floaters could indicate detachment of the humor, possibly resulting in retinal detachment later on. These are very serious conditions requiring immediate medical assistance, but are completely unrelated to laser exposure - rather to age.
 
You must also think about other medical conditions which present with symptoms you are talking about. I.E. Diabetes. It can be transient at times and can also be a sign of something more serious. I would still recommend seeing a medical doctor regarding this. An Optomitrist is not a medical doctor. Just my thoughts on this subject.

Another update:

It still hasn't gone away. I've noticed there is more than one of them, as well as numerous eye floaters. :-[
 
You have already seen an eye doctor. I don't know what to tell you. Other than I hope you aren't using lasers right now... Worst yet I don't even want to know if you aren't using safety goggles. If are this worried about your eyes get good goggles. Nothing else we can say or do.
 
Only thing I can say, go to doctor again, and maybe better to some other not the same one.......maybe he didn't see good.
Better to be sure than to be sorry.

The only laser I ever used was a 5mW Lyra G5 from Laserglow.

I'm kind of getting used to it. Maybe I should go to the eye doctor again.
 
You realize there is a blind spot 'built in' to our eyes from the 'factory' right?

it occurs where the optic nerve joins with the retina, and all of us have it. You've probably just now noticed it, and since you also know the dangers of lasers you are now focusing on it and noticing it, whereas most people never even know it's there. You know like when you buy a car you start seeing your exact kind of car everywhere, whereas before you never noticed them on the road at all? Same thing. Dont worry about it, there is a reason that 5mW has been declared to be 'relatively eye safe', you would be hard pressed to do some real, lasting damage with that sort of power.
 
Even in cases of relatively prolonged higher intensity exposure, the eye will generally recover without lasting damage. You can read about a case study on the subject here.

Ha. That's good, probably wasn't anything wrong anyway, I see black dots all the time, maybe when I'm tired and stuffs.
