I remember one of the first times I saw a laser beam was when I was in grade school and they had just opened this LaserTown place near my house. It's a kind of laser tag where you wear a laser-sensitive suite and hold a red-laser gun and shoot at people. It actually counted your shots and how many times you got hit. It had a 3 story maze and the coolest thing was that it was bright enough so you could see everything, but because the lasers were powerful and the place was pretty smoky and it was dark enough and you're staring down the barrel, you could see that laser... It took me a few turns before I realized the point was to win rather than enjoy this godsend lightsaber thingy! (not really, but you get the idea... it was COOL!) Funny enough we never had to wear goggles or anything and the maze was amazing. Full of bridges and towers and hiding spots and tunnels and everything. After you got shot enough times your laser would turn off automatically, and if you end up the last man standing then you'd get a free second turn. I got it once against a group of 50+ people! It was really exciting! I got a free leadlight for winning It later got lost during the second round... and I lost looking for it...
Back to the point... a gathering you say? Ya... I'm in central Florida.
Oh well...
