in all seriousness that guy should get 20 to life no bail if not capital punishment. reason is wtf was he thinking
2.) attempted murder of over 200 people hmm. wtf else was he trying to do? show pretty lights? its just like the arsonists in victoria. there is a chance of death but people still do it for "funsies" if ur not smart enought to see that wat your doing can cause injury or death them you don't deserve to walk the streets simple as that obey common sense or get screwed

It is very disappointing to read this kind of hysteria from a forum member. A few moments thought and some scribbles on the back of an envelope will show that the projection of a laser spot onto the underside of an plane from a laser pointer poses no sensible risk of any kind. Indeed it is rather hard to conceive of any plausible (I stress plausible) scenario in which a laser pointer could entail a risk to the lives of passengers on a plane.

As others have pointed out, the imposition of increasingly draconian penalties in this situation is a product of ignorance, fear and politicking, as opposed to informed decision making. There is of course nothing new about that. It is a feature of most government regulation. But as informed users, our role should be one of common-sense and moderation. Jumping on a bandwagon of hysteria and ignorance does not help matters.
