Alright I just went into town here and went to the electronics market near Yongsan (US military base), and I got a 240-100VAC to 12v PSU to power the LD driver. Works like a charm.
NEXT, I bought 2 peltier coolers for my HOT laser builds. I plan on using them for 2 different builds in the near future.
The mini labby box that has been showcased here got me interested. Anyways I am going to post pics after I get them uploaded to flicker.

BTW, my blue diode developed a rather unusual star pattern and died. NOT happy.
IT is nothing to do with the PSU as the current and voltage are adjusted automatically by the driver. RED diode is just fine.

Both are in a brass shim housing.

How hard did you drive that blue diode?

I've seen it happen with PHR diodes too... i have one that is, so to say, 'half dead'. It still produces a beam, but when you look at the pattern directly, it seems as if half of the emitting area is now dark, and the other half is still working.

No, I sure didn't overdrive the blue-ray diode, in fact I think I got a dud or something.
I used extra cooling on the diode housing but it didn't seem to work. I had the diode in an axiz housing with a brass heatsink. didn't matter.

The diode did exactly what Benm said, it emitted a half beam with an unusual pattern then after I turned it off and let it cool down, it became an dim blue LED.
Disappointed! I expected more.
I am starting to dislike Axiz housings. I like the big copper or AL ones with heatsink fins.

I doubt my bluray got toasted from overheating though, just happened after several hours of total runtime. It hasn't got led yet, but i suppose it will at some point. I'll just replace it.

Anyone got a spare 6x or 8x hanging around ?
I am also looking for a properly heatsinked module, the black kind with the fins.

Check the buy/sell section.. there is something named the 'maxsink' in there that will cool any laser diode. Pretty bulky, but good if you want those high powered blurays.

I've got a couple of 8X's (in their stock heat sinks from the burner) on hand.

$175 plus shipping

Peace,
dave
