Knockoff Saber 1.6W small review.

Re: Saber 1.6W small review.

It's wrong.

You could roll that sharp point towards the center and that would be ok, but that sharp tip sticking up is the wrong way to make a battery spring.

Just because you can drive on a flat tire doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

Re: Saber 1.6W small review.

Yeah, I would roll that under. The spring would likely contact the whole surface, but no need to take a chance. I thought you were talking about the spring size, not that end.

Re: Saber 1.6W small review.

Naw, the size is fine, nice and thick too, it's that sharp end, it is an easy fix.

Re: Saber 1.6W small review.

Yes, if it managed to be the only thing making contact with the battery, it could cause that connection to get quite hot. I didn't even see it until you pointed it out as I am used to seeing these in my hands in 3 dimensions.

Re: Saber 1.6W small review.

Just out of curiosity how thick is the housing ?

Can you take it apart for us with pics ?

I would like to know if we can buy just the body/tailcap without the laser diode or driver. ( I don't want a 3 mode driver. )

Is it aluminum ?

----------------------------------------------------------------

EXTENDED GATLING

What diode is in the 5W option ? Is it the NUBM05 or is it a NDB7A75 or other ?

Is the 3W option a NDB7875 ?

I am interested in buying some of these, I will also contact LPS

Also these appear to be threaded for the 3X beam expander

What lens is used ? I don't see a lens option. Is the lens in a standard M9 x 0.5 threaded barrel ?

The 1W 520nm GREEN is a good deal, is that a new or refurbished diode ?

I don't know what to think what diodes he uses and how hard and used they "might" be?
Even his 1W 520 is only $199.

Re: Saber 1.6W small review.

Acording to the LPS spec sheet, this is made of stainless steel.

Edit: I wonder if the battery tube and tail cap are SS, and the head/heatsink may be aluminum, that would be better.

Re: Saber 1.6W small review.

Well darn aluminum would be better for heat dissipation, I wish Alaskans hosts would come in, I really want to do a 7A75 with a 4X C-lens pair and 3XBE, I have scored several NOS ndb7a75's and a couple of ndg7475's on ebay, it seems everyone spent their tax refunds or they are paying taxes now and they are all broke because NEW NDG7475's were auctioning for 70 dollars and change, but now they have stopped putting them on the auction block.

Funny even my local Chinese restaurant says things always get slow at tax time, I suspect the refund people spent out and us self employed are all paying.

Re: Saber 1.6W small review.

This is a bootleg version of our striker saber laser which made by unknown china company, please REMOVE our name from the title. We DO NOT guarantee the product quality of this counterfeit.

Real striker saber laser is here:

I’m so sorry Podo I actually had no idea, I feel horrible that I didn’t realize this.

Re: Saber 1.6W small review.

Check to see if a magnet sticks to the host. If so, it is steel. They look and feel good in the hand, but are very poor conductors of heat and you will not feel the heat sink inside getting hot by feeling the outside of the host. For this amount of optical power, it isn't necessary to have the spring to be rolled or ground down to allow for more current to flow. It is, after all, just under 2 watts. If you are happy, that is all that matters. :D
I just checked, my magnets don’t stick to it at all. I may just have a crappy magnet, it’s a tiny one. I still feel so stupid, I can’t believe I didn’t realize this was a knockoff, I’m definitely not mad because technically LPS doesn’t actually say it’s Sanwu.

Wrong is wrong, and this is wrong. The small contact area can get hot and makes a poor connection more prone to become intermittent with vibration, movement, also I would order with the 3W diode.

How is the easiest way to fix this? I’ve never actually done it, thanks Red :)
I have a spring about that size in my 3 watt MS-SSW-II with a NDB7875 in it. This thing is pulling maybe 1.7 amps at most and shouldn't get hot with that amount of current. But, don't take my word for it. As soon as you are done running it for a couple of minutes, take it apart quickly and tell us how hot the spring is.
As soon as I get home I’ll check this for you.
Hopefully it doesn’t get that warm.

I have a tiny magnet but it’s not neodymium, it won’t stick to anything on there so at least it’s stainless steel lol!

I apologize for the multi post but I needed to post this before I forget, the body is exactly 2mm and the head thickness is 3 1/2.
It’s definitely not AL, it’s too heavy. I wish I had a scale.

I contacted LPS via email and asked about the 3W and 5W diode and the lens, here is the reply that I received:

Hello Robert,

Thanks for contacting us.

We undertand people may have interest on the laser diode model, but we don’t detail the model. we hope you could understand.

The lens a universal size lens, same as thor series.

That's reassuring:eek:

Since it failed the magnet test, it is most likely aluminum, which is a good thing. Aluminum has a higher thermal conductivity than steel. My Thor is made from Aluminum and is very heavy in the hand. It feels very solid too.

I might buy the least expensive 1.6w and put in my own diode/module and driver, it is a good looking host and I like that it's threaded for the 3XBE.

I like the performance of a fresh NDB7875 @ 2.4a with a G7 and 3XBE, Ignites a paper lunch bag at 20 feet, granted the 7875 is new old stock as they are not in production.

After looking at both Sanwu and Laserpointerstores sites, it looks to me like the finned heatsink portion is made of aluminum, and the battery tube, tailcap, and front attack style bezel are stainless steel.
This is actually the best of both worlds, great heatsinking, and durable good looks!

@RCB, I agree, I think this would make a sweet looking host for your project! :D
