It is freakishly small, You can't even tell the diameter when wearing glasses and looking at it shining on a black surface. I would guess it is less then 0.25mm at the aperture.

Your coherent sapphire is around that if IIRC ( 0.28mm ? ). The beam from that thing rivals an argon laser in both power and quality!

The beam on the sapphire is ~0.7mm in diameter at the aperture, this is several times smaller. I wish there was a way to measure it correctly

Oh Snap! Beam profiler

So with a new diode, cavity realignment, fiber cleaning, and many hours of careful temperature tuning, the laser is doing 2.2W 532nm at 18A of diode current. For those of you who do not know, the rated current for this power from Spectra Physics is 25A. I also got a new beam collimator from my friend, with the collimator, the beam is a little under 2mm, but less then 0.5mRad divergence.

Hmm... i wonder if i could light a white match... my 200 mW red laser can =)

Yes, it can light a match, the real question is, can it light a entire box of matches, unfocused in less than 10 seconds? This can! (and don't ask me how I figured that out....)

.... lighting a whole box of matches is as hard as lighting one match - as long as you keep them in the box ;p
