Howdy All well I just got back from an other pyro event called Do-It, this one was held in the Nevada desert and is geared towards people who like to build pyrotechnic items :D

We took many pounds of chemicals and paper and other pyro items needed to make things and had lots of fun making whistle rockets and mines.

Here is a few pictures of the event.

Setting up our camp and work space.

Picture of our work area.

Making a few mines.

Here are 7 mines I just finished making :D

My friend Cody.

Other peoples work areas.

There was some pretty big rockets there, this one carried up a 12" ball shell.

A 8" shell being taped up.

Pyrotechnic items drying in the sun.

A rocket with 7 engines and a 4" canister shell for the heading.

And there are always a few other items there to play with in case you get tired of lighting fuses, can you say Acetylene cannon

These cannons would shoot a 4 pound beer can filled with concrete about 500 yards down range, after it went through the target and the 55 gallon drum holding up the target.

If you liked this thread then check this one out> http://laserpointerforums.com/f57/24-aerial-shell-build-84988-2.html#post1230501

Thanks for looking feel free to post :D

Beer can of concrete too lol now that's a potato! What type of barrel could withstand the pressure?

Damnit Australia, why you gotta ruin all of the fun things that america does :( But yeah, that looks really fun, my friend is really into rockets he'd die to go to something like that :)
EDIT: lol 33 rep power 333 posts :tinfoil:

One of these days maybe I'll get to go to Do-It and Burning Man. I'll just have to keep bugging Jeff for tips about making pyro.
Hey NKO29, you can always become a mmember of PGI and come to the states for convention. Long trip, but we had a few people from different countries. How restricted are your laws when it comes to pyro?

Just like lasers it's essentially a 100% BAN :( I have done some diy fireworks with some old shotgun shells that i harvested for their powder. nothing special but they flew about 20m in the air :) I do however love making flare like sparkler fireworks, i once crushed 500 sparklers into 1 canister it was amazing!

Lol did that too . Not so many though. Try filling a tennis ball with strike anywhere match heads, then fastball to desired target. Pretty fun lol. No cannon but fun.

I did the same thing when I was a kid, I would swipe a couple of grandpas 12 gauge shells and dump the powder out and use it to make pyro type things, we would make a tennis ball go clean out of sight in the air :D

EDIT: Isn't that the ugliest toe you ever seen :yabbem:

Wow, the only thing I got to do was blow up little green army men and Hot Wheels.:yabbem:
Guess that's why I decided to get into this; to make up for all the things I missed out on when I was a kid.
So how does one go about making a tennis ball loft into orbit?

Well we used to use a piece of pipe that the tennis ball would fit down and use it just like a cannon with a little smokeless powder under the ball :D

1.5 in PVC potato gun and golf balls! We used to pack a rag in the barrel and use lantern igniters for the ignition. So much better then electric spark . We have shot rebar into tree so hard four wheelers wouldn't pull thm out. Lol kids

WE(one younger brother by two years) got to go on the yearly winter vacation to Florida until we became a huge PITA (I was around 13 IIRC)no fireworks sold in Ohio. We always convinced the parents to let us buy some in Tenn. on the way how- smole bomgs-snakes-black cats-sparklers etc- nothing all that powerful. so the first year we were sent to Grannies and were not going with we put up such a fuss that they agreeded to stop in tenn on the way back and buy us what we wants- said to make a list==aha!
here was the list

two pacjkages smole bombs
two snakes
four lady fingers
ojne gross m-80s
four 100 count black cat
six sparklers
0ne gross cherry bombs
and so on

we figured they would not get us the ones we wanted most=

I think dad just give the list to the guy as we got all on the list-

when they were home- it was sparklers and smoke bombs
BUT when they left us alone!! time for the M-80s AND back then they were NOT like those today.

WE blew up ever thing we could find-

WE found a pipe the right size to fprce a golf ball down it

we pounded the pipe down into the ground and shot golf balls into the heavens.

before we used all 288 of these we got busted and they were taken away.
When we did our summer vacation up in Canada got them back but they are just not as much fun up there-

heres a hak tip

net fishermen use a thing called a shark chaser (I think) ...its a 12 guage shotgun shell that shoots a pyro much like the old m-80s- inside there is a pocket of sand to make it sink- when they haul back sometimes sharks go after the catch so they use these to chase them off- IIRC they are about 30 $ for a box of 25- not bad and can be purchased year round at big fishermans supply places-- not supposed to be sold to just anyone but...there are ways-- +4 to Jeff K-- met him this year finally (at SELEM)-- great guy--hak

It looks like you all are having way too much fun playing with fire out there HAHA. I have always liked pyrotechnics and I have a rough understanding on how they work and are made but I never had any means to actually be involved like that. What you have going there is a freaking cool hobby and job bro.

That 7 engine rocket looks like one hell of a bottle rocket :wtf:. Do you have any shots of those 12" shells or the bottle rocket of doom going off?

I live in Nevada now so I am going to have to check that out some time. How often does this happen and in what part of Nevada?
