Hi all,

I wasn't sure which one to get, I was gonna go with button top just to be safe but I prefer less tension on the spring. What do you all use?

I have used both, haven’t really noticed any problems either way.???

I just go with whichever set charges up first. Might be a question to shoot to JL and see what they say. I far as I can see they don’t recommend one way or the other.

I also use both flat top and button top 16340's in my PL-E 465. I found that the only time I felt that the springs were being compressed extensively was when I used 18350 cells.

maybe go with one flat top and one button top --button top goes in the battery tube first then the flat top--that way you will not have to worry about one battery making good contact with the bottom of the other which might be the case with 2 flat tops

^^^^ Agreed ^^^^^

Also, another option is that some "flattop" cells have their pos. end raised just enough to make a solid connection when used in series. Here is a link to one such cell.

Or just put small magnet between the batts. It is better to use two cells of the same kind IMO. You can even carefully put a bit of solder on one batt top.

Since most flat tops are unprotected and most button tops are, I'd be careful mixing the two. It isn't a good idea mismatching LiPo batteries as one will always take most of the load. You might get away with it many times, but there is always a chance that it won't end well.

mI make a thin plastic 'shield' to be 100% certain that the magnet cannot short out when using 16340s.. I use EFest 18350s and found it much easier to screw the tailcap on slightly THEN attach the middle section to the front... if your JL comes apart there.

JL suggests both sizes btw.

afaik ALL JL Lasers take neg to the LD and Pos to the tailcap.

Something else maby to consider, alot of tail cap pressure has put has put some good size divets in the neg end of my 18350 batterys when using button tops. Almost to the point that the battery ends are touching. I think BobM has noticed this also?
I'm starting to use flat tops and magnets that are a little bigger than the button top's width, and also using a right size o ring so not to risk a short like Hak mentioned.

My PL-E Mini can fit any 16340s and any 18350s so you should be good. :)

I would suggest 18350s though cause they will last longer.
