hello guys
first i used the search button and got all i need expect small things >>>

1 - can i build a red laser with dorcy jr. and a module and a resistor for the heat
without a driver because its to expensive :mad:
i will not use a heatsink becase i will use it for about 5 minute per day
so how you think the lifetime of the diode will be

2 - what is the difference between the open can red diode and the normal diode that i extract from a any dvd Rw

3 - is the pin in the middle of diode is the negative one ? or its a photo {Not User}

4 - what is better one ? a dorcy host with the built in boost driver and a 10 ohm resistor | OR A mini mag flash light with 2 AA AND A LM317 DRIVER ??
BUT I THINK A LM317 CANT FIT WITH JUST A 2 AA BATTERIES

You can build a DDL driver for a couple of dollars, See link in my sig, that is far less that the cost of replacing a blown LD.

bt my problem is i dont have this tools in my country [Egypt] to build one
so is thare is and cheep drivers for sell
the Rkcstr and lava too expensive
 
You state that you used the [Search] Button.... what did you use it for..
to find a recipe for a cherry pie...:whistle:

It's obvious that you did not research using a resistor instead of a proper
current driver for powering a Laser Diode...

If you feel a proper LD driver is too expensive... then you are in the wrong hobby...IMO

If I hear this (answered more than 100 times) question one more time... I swear....
I'll SCREAM !!!!

Rog just suggested to you..... build a DDL Driver

I agree with Kenom. The Dorcy has a driver. Use the right size resistor and you'll be fine.
 
Ken... I agree that there are certain builds for some of the bit more experienced
members here...

But I don't think it's a good idea to give a complete noob the KipKay go-ahead...
That is the most sure way for him to destroy a Blu-ray....
- no despiking cap....
- no constant current source...
- no real current limiting if he decides to use "just one more battery"...

BTW we are not jumping on this guy.... it is obvious he's looking to be spoon feed...
The Info IS on the Forum... All he has to do is look for it.

Umm, I don't really know what you all are saying^^, but basically, YES you can use just a resistor in series with a red LD using the circuit driver inside the Dorcy Jr. As Kenom said, he's done it as well as many/some other members on the forum (including myself). I was also cheap, and mine's been holding up fine for months now. However, I'm not sure quite how you would build one without a heatsink. Jake21 (not really a member here anymore) built my heatsink for $10. But, if you plan on going without a heatsink, you should at LEAST try to use a washer or two. Just drill out the inside of the washer to fit the aixiz module inside. Then grind away the outside of the washer until it fits inside the host. Basically, you can do it and build it for cheap. Also, MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT USE A 3.6/3.7V RCR123a BATTERY WITH IT. ONLY A 3V Primary (non-rechargeable), or 3V rechargeable (DX has one pair of 3V RCR123a - I personally use that with my Dorcy). And, I believe they said a 5ohm resistor is ideal, but I think I personally used 4.7ohm or something (don't remember exactly). And, I used a closed can diode, not an open can... but really there is not too big of a difference. However, I believe people said a closed can (normally in a DVD burner), is better to use than the open can, when doing this Dorcy build.
 
Also, to answer the MiniMag question.. I don't think you'll be able to fit an LM317 inside a MiniMag.. at least not without the module sticking out a LOT.
 
This isn't like the kipkay maglite mod, the dorcy already has a driver for its LED. I've never used a dorcy before, but many other people have used them without a driver, and it seems to work okay.

I have no idea what kind of driver the dorcy uses for its LED, but other people have seemed to have no problems.
 
@jerry, the LD he is using is not a blu-ray. it is a red from his dvd rw.

@mtrp, rog sugested the next best option to you. the 2piece set from www.o-like.com super cheap.

or if you have experience soldering listen to kenom (it's keh-nom, not keenom :yh:)!
 
Wow, the Dorcy has it's own driver. I'm a big fan of the DDL driver too. It can even be run with just the LM317t and single low resistance resistor in the sense position. If using the DDL, I recommend using a 10uF tantalum film cap soldered across the legs of the laser diode, along with the 1N4001 soldered in reverse across the legs. Then the DDL circuit board is just the LM317t with the sense resistor. I repaired a DAEDAL built MXDL red laser that used this method. It used wire-wrap wire at 30 gauge which had corroded after years of use. Other than that it worked flawlessly.
