I'd say don't worry about it on a 5mW green.. The IR output is negligible.

What about the true 50mw laser? Should i get an ir filter for that one?

50mW is at the top end of where IR filtering is optional. All green lasers above 50mW should have IR filtering..

Unless the IR stays collimated with the green. If you test it and it is, I don't think it would be a problam.

IR ONLY MATTERS IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT GETTING AN ACCURATE POWER MEASUREMENT.

Sorry for the caps but people get so confused so quickly around here.... When using a green pen, DONT WORRY ABOUT THE IR. The green is going to damage your eyes WAAAAYYYY before the (scattered and diminished) IR ever will.
