Invitation to All Members:Free Laser Trial -DinoDirect

Well, I did this when they posted this . If you carefully look the order they chose the winners, you will see that Dinodirect took only the high rep people.
And that's not my problem. As Asherz clearly stated , if they want you to make a review they ask you to , they don't post an invitation to ALL members.

Also, from a business point of view it would make more sense for them to choose members that have been around for a while, as they are almost indefinitely going to do a review, where as a member with a lower postcount/rep may just take the laser not bother with the review and leave.

Stick around for a while and and build some rep and next time a review is needed you might be asked, I was never asked to do a review on the $500+ Wickedlaser product they sent out for reviews, only people with much higher posts/rep were chosen (It was about 4 months ago when mine was lower.)

Wouldn't it be the other way around.... give a cheap Chinese 10mw laser to a vet he'll throw it away and not think twice about it. Give it to a noob... and all of a sudden its able to do magical things... and their review will be extremely exaggerated and biased.

Just my $0.02

1) I ordered laser pointer long time ago, and it came in 8 days in Bosnia. At this moment I knew that I'm going to deal with DinoDirect again. (Fast and free shipping comparing to DX) and here is review:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/d...een-laser-pointer-black-46117.html#post621387
Very satisfied... for its price
2) I'd like to see more better quality lasers. I don't like lasers descriptions, there are lot of false information.
3) The most important thing is to buy good quality laser, with real power as advertised, with good heatinking abilities and with 18650 batteries :)
4) I mostly publish my reviews on laserpointersforum, upload videos on youtube, and upload photos to photobucket, and if product is interesting I write review on site where I buy item (Such is DinoDirect) .
5) I'm also interested in more electornic DIY products, like soldering irons, LEDs, LED drivers, batteries...
6)E-mail address is PMed.

They do have a lot of soldering accessories.

All soldering wicks I bought from DX are crap except for one.

All others appear to be 5year old corroded cr'p-
And solder I got is also comparable to cr'p.

Might have to give Dino a shot.

Dino - what's the hghest quality solder you sell?

And solder I got is also comparable to cr'p.

Well, actually, i tried soldering with crap. It worked quite well, considering...

(By "quite well" i mean it thermally decomposed, made the entire house smell of the worst thing IMAGINEABLE, and didn't work in the slightest)

Hello. I think that Dinodirect shouldn't have told << invitation to all members>> but << invitation to members with 20+ rep>> .
Just for your knowledge, I admire you people(members of LPF) for your vast knowledge in lasers and that this doesn't aim to you.

Just by this angle(the invitation thing), it is very easy to see that Dinodirect is dishonest and a possible scam.By choosing only the high rep members, it is like telling that the rest of us are cheaters or unable to review a laser.

Thanks again almighty Dinodirect for the huge opportunity to participate in this mega-super thing ! Have a nice day....

While i'm remaining neutral on this, there does seem to be a definite favouring of users with higher rep power. This does seem sensible to me from DinoDirect's point of veiw, but i can see your frustration. If everyone favours the already skilled, those still learning won't get better as fast.

Well, regardless of BIAS (I don't think a noob or a vet are likely to be majorly biassed either way) i can see that a "noob" would be more impressed by the same power level and a lower build quality, because that's what they're used to. The assumption (if DinoDirect ARE selecting those with a higher rep power, etc) is that they will write a longer, more in-depth reveiw.

Something nobody's taking into account here, these are not veteran-quality lasers. Veterans are not likely to be ordering from DinoDirect or any other general-spectrum-electronics website. They'll be ordering from the expensive specialist companies like CNI and Wicked. Middle-range users will be ordering from O-like or Rayfoss. The people that will be heading to sites like DealExtreme, DinoDirect and FocalPrice are the "noobs". The people that want a cheap laser to try out to see whether they want to persure the hobby further.
In which case (on the assumption that DinoDirect are selecting people based on rep power, and we don't know that they are) they are doing THEMSELVES a disservice. They are appealing to the wrong market.

I ordered my first laser from FocalPrice. It fell to bits after a while. I was prepared for that, i just wanted to try out the hobby, see how much i liked lasers and whether it was worth pursuing. I'm now in the phase where i'm experimenting, comparing the medium-priced sites like O-like and Rayfoss with the cheap sites like DX, DinoDirect and FP and I still have nowhere near the budget to buy from CNI or Wicked. I am the target market. Similar story for BrightSpark, and probably thanospetr (although i don't know him). The veterans, having ordered from the cheap, passed through the middle-range and now ordering exotic wavelengths, very high-powers and generally buying from the expensive sites are not the best ones to reveiw the units, simply because they're not the ones likely to be buying them.

In psychology terms: giving the laser to veterans means the experiment has low ecological validity. :)

The solder spool I got smells real funny when melting , now that you've mentioned.
I wonder what they consider to be a "flux" :D

Also, no possible way you'll get shiny solder joint. No freaking way.
I have this 1.0mm solder spool that is about exhausted. It's great and makes awsome solder joints.

This 0.6 mm I got from DX - no freaking way.
It also won't flow , it's like already re-used three times and finally melted into a wire.

@Eudaimonium
I did a taster-day at some university. Their soldering irons and solder worked so beautifully! I wonder what was different about it... it just sort of... went exactly where you wanted it to.

The thing that i find difficult about soldering is that you need one hand to hold the soldering iron, one hand to hold the solder, and then you've ran out of hands so you need to work out some creative way to hold the two wires in place while you solder them...
If anyone knows how to sort that problem, i'd be very interested.

Sorry to hijack. I'll stop now.

To keep it on topic, after my exams (meaning the 8th of June) i'll average the rep power of everyone in the thread, the people that didn't get chosen and the people that did get chosen. That way you can all draw conclusions from the results as you wish.

Run out of hands LOL

Ever heard of helping hands?

They are little metal clamps on a holder , they hold objects you wish to solder in place.

i usually have a filthy mouth in real life, and most places online, so its sometimes hard to not be the cheeky synical prick i truly am.

but i just cant pass this up

1) Tell us your first impression of DinoDirect.com.

I have been to this site a few times, add items to my cart, and then end up giving up, and not bothering with the order due to the mixed reviews on shipping to the usa, and the wide fluctuation in price/reviews of products... ive heard everything from underspeced by ~40mw, to over speced by more than 100mw. so all these come to mind when i revisit the site, at any given time.

also, i think their servers are flooded, as it refuses to load the page, and i highly doubt there is any problem on my end (1gps MS corp net)
(give me free shit)

2) What’s your opinion on DinoDirect.com homepage composition, shopping experience, product layout, product introduction and product roadmap? Please specify two of these.

the product introductions are hilarious, as well as the listed uses for these high powered pointers. good lols, thanks guys. i couldnt imagine having to deal with cust. service. i remember yelling over the phone at people at gadgettown, whose only consolation to me was to not worry...

i was definitely worried.

any ways, the introductions need work by competent individuals. homepage is fine, layout is just fine, and man, you all have loads of stuff

(give me free shit)

3) What is the most important feature to choose a laser?

i have kind of exhausted my interest in drop-shipping companies for pointers, but usually sheer power. now, if you all offer a 200mw 532 nm with decent divergence and consistent power, even if at spec, i would be wearing the shit eater.

(give me free shit)

4) Would you like to share your laser reviews on one of these reviews websites? Such as Resellerratings, xom and rate it all, etc. And also upload to DinoDirect page on Flickr and Youtube?

i would share brutally honest concise reviews of whatever products i ordered, if they showed up, whether correct or not.

(give me free shit)

5) Are you interested with other DinoDirect.com products? If yes, please specify this product name.

too much for me to list, hook it up with a shopping spree! seriously though, almost all the useless crap in the world i would want (not really) is on this site, however the issue of incosistent shipping etc is what scares me away

(give me free shit)

6)What’s your email address? (Please feel free to PM it to me or reply here. We just need it to send you the invitation.)

sorry for whatever board etiquette i may have violated, but man, i want some free shit.

Yeah... i ordered some online. When they got here they wouldn't move very much, but they were ok... i guess. Then one sunny day i left them outside by accident and when i remembered and went out to get them they smelt like rotting meat and were infested with maggots! I fed them to the neighbours' dog in the end. He seemed pretty happy, so that made it all ok!

Lol... i tend to use clothes pegs. They usually work alright, although not perfect. Might build something to do the job for me. Thanks for the link though!

Forgot about typing the question too:

This is a wonderful little thing yall got going on here!!

Tell us your first impression of DinoDirect.com.
1) It looked nice, it looked like a real site. One that I would feel confident buying from. I really enjoyed the layout, and I think that this is a site I will DEFINATELY buy from

What’s your opinion on DinoDirect.com homepage composition, shopping experience, product layout, product introduction and product roadmap? Please specify two of these.
2) The proucts you provide are neatly oraganized in sepperate catagories (I love this!)
And I like how the information on the product is given neatly, and orderly. In the title, and on the product page, there's no question as to what you're getting! (So far I'm REALLY impressed! )

What is the most important feature to choose a laser?
3) Most important, well safety honestly. IS it a safe purchase or laser. Ir filter? Clicky switch? LED indicator? I look for safety features like that to determine if the product is safe. (again, very impressed)

Would you like to share your laser reviews on one of these reviews websites? Such as Resellerratings, xom and rate it all, etc. And also upload to DinoDirect page on Flickr and Youtube?
4) If I had the materials to make a video, I'd GLADLY make a video of the product, and I'd be completely ok with makeing an extensive detailed text review. After all, it IS the reviews that also help me decide on the product I'm buying. I would be HONORED to do a review on one of your products.

Are you interested with other DinoDirect.com products? If yes, please specify this product name.
5) I am EXTREMELY interested in these 2 products here:
Firedragon-I 532nm 500mW Flashlight Style Handheld Elite Green Laser Pointer Kit (Guaranteed) - DinoDirect.com

Stylish 3V 405nm 100mW Violet Purple Blue Laser Pointer Pen - DinoDirect.com

And I hope that I get it somehow so that I can write an extensive review on it to further better your site (it's already fantastic, is it possible to make your site ANY better? It's already amazing!)

What’s your email address? (Please feel free to PM it to me or reply here. We just need it to send you the invitation.)
6) Pm sent!

Thank you for providing me with the chance to view your excellent site! And I can't wait to purchase something and write a review about it here! But it'll be a while Low on money. BUT, I'll be sure to try to get something from your business for all of you!

Lol... tbh, i don't blame him.

The only thing that stops me having adopted that strategy is that i don't think that's what they are choosing people based on.

hah, most likely not, ive noticed this site for quite some time and wondered why it has such an on the fence reception.

im guessin this might be a way to take care of that issue.

anyways, this is a pricey hobby anyways! i spend wayy too much on it, and plan on continuing to hah.

Here here! Expensive...

I'm of the opinion that it's a substitute for toys, which aren't any fun anymore. I was untimely thrust out of childhood, and i want it back! Lol... ahh well, rest of my life to make up for it...

99th post...!
