What you're about to see represents a substantial research and development undertaking on my part, both in terms of time and money invested. In aggregate, the R & D process took over 45 cumulative seconds of development work, at least 1 prototype, incurred costs of over 88 cents, and required specialized tools and equipment, such as:

This is remarkably bright!

I would post design instructions, but they would basically be "Glue part on knob. Done."

Ha! What wavelength. 445?

It's 445, and honestly, this is really neat. This hobby can be inexpensive after all.

I can easily see this part becoming the basis for a number of community designed Phosforce competitors.

Is this as efficient as a real flashlight? Obviously not. But for 88 cents, why not have one as a backup?
 
The picture makes it look exceptional bright. Now just incorporate it with a reflector and all using the same lens barrel to get some throw!

Phosphor works only with 445nm, if I remember correctly.

Have you a flashlight for compare?
 
Don't mean to ressurect an old post, but I'm looking for advice to build one of these myself. Can someone please explain what components (reasonable recommendations appreciated) I would need and the steps to do this myself. I'm a complete newbie.

Could I use a 445 Laser as strong as 1000mW - 2000mW without melting the phosphor top? Is this safe to look at as long as the top is on? Do I remove the lense completely? Do I focus the beam (or unfocus it) in a particular way? Thanks.
