I am a Canadian citizen working overseas in South Korea for LG Display.
I am in need of an LPM.

I have a Canadian Paypal account, but due to the fact that Paypal will only accept addresses within Canada, I have to get a Korean Paypal account. In order to get a Korean Paypal account I need to have a totally different national ID number. Foreigners are prohibited from owning a Korean credit card because of having the wrong starting number for their ID's. Sounds pretty stupid right? Yup. That's Korea. Always making something simple more complex.

Anyways. I am yet again having to explain to members that I can purchase via Paypal (send money via PayPal), but that they can just ignore the default address and use my Korean address instead. Sounds simple. right?

I am pulling my hair out at this point.

Does anyone have an LPM for sale preferably a 3.5-5W ?

Please PM me if you got an LPM or you are a company willing to help me out.

Payment is NOT an issue.

Your understanding of my situation is most appreciated.

The only way to do that without problems on either end is to have you pay as a gift. So you need to find someone you can trust.

I have felt with other people using paypal and using an alternative address before.

Simple, I pay for shipping and item, seller delivers. Pretty straight forward.

There is no protection if they send it to another address other than the address listed in the Paypal account.

Never said you needed a 3rd person.

So I looked into this quite a bit when we discussed it last month, and I can tell you what I found out. It may be of some help:

You can ALWAYS ignore the Paypal address, if you want to. There's nothing different about the situation here. However, you WILL loose seller protection if you do so. There's nothing different about that here either. If you ship to a South Korean address, when the confirmed address is a Canadian one, you WILL loose seller protection. It's a bit misleading to say that "they can just ignore the default address and use my Korean address instead". Because they can't if they want to retain Paypal's security.

It's sort of like saying "I live in Washington, so you can just mail me cash". Mailing cash is always an option, just like shipping to a non-Paypal address is always an option. It's an unsafe one though, and nothing about being in Washington actually changes that equation. Similarly, while Paypal may be aware of this frustration to non-citizens living in South Korea, they haven't actually changed anything about their seller protection rules to accommodate the issue. So really, the only difference in this case, is that Seoul_Lasers actually has a legitimate and honest reason for requesting that you ship to an alternate address. But in terms of Paypal's honoring of the seller protection, you're still out of luck, just like you would be in any other scenario. There are two ways (that I'm aware of) to get around this:

1) Ship something, tracked, to the verified/confirmed address provided by Paypal. An envelope with a "thank you for your purchase" card, would probably be fine. Then, once signed for, ship the purchased item to the buyer's requested South Korean address. For non-eBay Paypal transfers, the protection is against non-receipt, and a tracking showing delivery to the correct address should be (as far as I know) sufficient to satisfy the seller protection requirements.

2) Send payment market as a "gift". This removes the need for seller protection.

Frankly, since the peculiar setup is an issue on the buyer's end (in this case) and not the seller's, I'd probably recommend option 2. But as has been mentioned, you need to purchase from a reputable source. They could ship nothing, and it would still be your loss. I would probably recommend asking Jerry if you could purchase an LPM directly from him. Explain the situation, and offer to send payment as a "gift" as a result of your unique circumstances. I don't know if he would go for it, but since there's effectively zero risk to him, I would think he would. The flip side of that, is that you know you should be able to trust Jerry to actually ship it.

Just a pain that PayPal won't recognize a secondary address in a
Different country and that Korean PayPal requires
a national ID that works with domestic credit cards that are rok citizen

Perhaps it's the "some people" that have been burnt in
the past by doing a simple "ship it to this address
instead" have learned a lesson and are now hesitant......


BTW... I never thought about offering to accept a Payment as
a "Gift" since we have never done that before...

That would then be doable... I'd be comfortable to ship to
you doing that...

It IS a pain - and not your fault either - which must be frustrating.
 
I think some folks are a little touchy! Here is my take on stuff like this. First, it is very apparent that we are dealing with someone for whom english is a second language. I think we should cut those folks a lot of slack.

There aren't many of us Americans who bother to learn anything other than English and it is commendable that so many other people attempt to do so.

Second, considering that, we should also allow for the fact that due to this person not speaking English as well as some of us who have English as our native tongue, they may not understand some of our posts as clearly as we think that they do.

Finally, does it REALLY matter who gets credit for a brief exchange on helping someone get an LPF? Are any of us doing any of this for "credit?"

I am a western Canadian.
Though, I do speak 3 other languages.

Just because I happen to live and work in
Korea at present time does NOT make
me a non English speaker.
It does make me a native English speaker without
an LPM.
