Seeing all the posts regarding FDA's crack down on laser hobbyists, I wonder whether it would also be illegal to buy ONE laser pointer (power > 5mW) during an overseas trip and bring it IN PERSON to US? Would it be considered as a personal belonging and for "personal use" and not confiscated?

I thinks that's a decision your going to have to make on your own...

Do yourself a favor and do not try to bring ANYTHING illegal into the US through an airport. They will fine you on the spot, and can seize anything that contributed to the smuggling. Its not worth it for a stupid laser. Build one if you want one.

nope! FAA runs the airports and if find anything even BARELY illegal... you'll be punished to the full extent of the law.

I would not try that ... Just order one of the KD 50 there great priced and if you take one apart and look...

"all mine have always been marked 50,60,70" I'm assuming that is the mW rating. Nice little builds for $29.00 :)
