im using LG 20x DVD burner diode, please help!

about my open can diode i ran it in 415mA but i dont how much output it gives, for now i cant afford the laser power meter, cuz my piggy bank breaks apart :-/after i bought all the tools and things may help to make this laser projects, and thanks for the advice on the goggles, dont worry i use sun shade into it. ;D

Post a vid of the farthest distance you're able to light a match with it. You might beat jayrob's 20 feet. ;D

ok, i hope i can do it with only heatsink without a TEC, its very hard to focus the beam, im only using acrylic lens, what should i do with this, do i need to use goggles to get the right focus of my laser? it was so bright its hard to see of the focus was fine... any suggestion chido?

Acrylic lens is the best for burning since you can focus the beam down to a little dot. With glass you get a higher output, but it sucks at burning.
Get some goggles, check the links I posted on the last page: ;)

I need to jump in with a slight correction...a glass lens does not suck at burning... ;D There does not seem to be a huge difference to me using a glass lens close up, however for distance I believe the acrylic lens is a better burner but not by much.

Ok, sorry I guess I need to do more research before giving advice, I saw a post from jayrob and he said the glass lens couldn't focus down to a small dot, and therefore the acrylic was a better burner. I thought that was correct since he's been messing around with open cans and both lenses. :-[

And so have I..I have the same modules and lenses as he does..but I don't think he would ever say the glass lens sucks at burning...lol. Much of this are subjective opinions, and even a tiny difference between the same lenses could have an effect. Jay thinks his aixiz acrylic lens is a better burner than his meredith acrylic lens, and I think differently...I believe my meredith acrlic lens is better.

adgmeijin, are you putting into your IR in excess of 200mA? im crossing my prongs it lives long enough!

I am working on a MXDL with an open can. I tested it and it is putting out 287.2 mw's.. ;D This is using a glass lens. I am using a 3 ohm resistor with the 317. Gotta love those open cans.. ;D

Oh, and I will not say what I have crossed hoping it lasts a long time... ;D

Just to add another 2 cents...I have two different Meredith acrylic lenses, and the difference between them is noticeable. One is definitely not as good of a burner as the AixiZ acrylic, but the other is just as good. Possibly more testing might reveal that Gazoo is right! I have come to know, that he usually is! What he is saying about the glass lenses is correct. I haven't experienced any noticeable differences in the AixiZ acrylic lenses...

Good news with that MXDL Gazoo! I'm pretty sure your open can diode is very happy in it's new home. If you haven't already read/obtained some, these little silicone tailcaps make great lens caps to protect from dust:

Just cut the little center nub off (inside). They fit both AixiZ modules (if you have the metal focus grip on the lens), as well as Meredith...

Excellent tip on a lens cover Jay. I will be ordering a couple more MXDL's and will definitely get a pack of them. Thanks.
