ok this thread is intended to give detail about how good a 10k scanner is, for those who are just starting out.
the cost -
you can get 10k scanner from as little as £45
case £10 from maplin
6mm thick aluminium plate £15
25pin parallel connector £1
some wire and solder £5
and laser of your choice, i would recommend a laser with analogue blanking. IM not a fan of TTL. im using a 200mw green with analogue blanking
so total cost without laser under £80
took me about 4 hours to put togther, thats from start to finish. this is my 5 scanner build so i do know what im doing now.
after running mine for a number of hours yesterday it does need a fan
i hate youtube so please download the videos here and they are in good quality.
there is some flicker from the camera, in real life the scanner does not flicker
10k scanners are great for beam shows they will do pretty much anything you throw at them. as shown in the below video they can do fast/random/mad beam shows
www.laser-man.co.uk/2006/10k/Compound20969.mpg
they can also do slow/smooth beam shows
www.laser-man.co.uk/2006/10k/Compound21832.mpg
they can do simple animations, you will see some flicker on the more complecx animations
www.laser-man.co.uk/2006/10k/Compound22958.mpg
this last video shows the scanner doing slightly more complex beam shows
www.laser-man.co.uk/2006/10k/Compound22494.mpg
heres two videos of the scanner in a large room with the rgb scanner above
