i am using 3xAAA batterie....4.5V total

thnx for the help for now...

or is more info needed....pleas help.....
i have a driver where i tested my laser on but it is to big for the host i have....

Hmm, I think RHD's Red Mosquito would work for this. Do you have any more details on the red diode? What burner was it out of?

Well, there is no specific one and only driver for a red diode.

There is a LOT of different solutions which will power your diode.
You can build you own LM317 / 1117 based driver, you can buy premade drivers such as Mosquito mentioned, or you can buy LED drivers from DealExtreme and modify them to work within your operating parameters.

It's all there, dude. Just search a little. Search for red laser builds. See what people used in their lasers. See some red laser reviews.

Good luck :)

Actually I believe RHD's Red Mosquito was designed for driving the Opnext and Mitsubishi reds -maybe he could chime in here, it may be overkill - but I know it's *small*, and he said size is a concern.

Trigger, search for that (Red Mosquito) as well as Mohgasm (Mohrenberg's driver) and Flexdrive, I think the Flexdrives are low on availability now though. But I think Eudaimonium's point is, and I agree -- to get you looking around here and diving a bit deeper into what's here. If you have questions, come back here and ask though!

You can't use the Red Moquito. The driver is using AMC7135 which has only fixed output of 350mA, 700mA or 1050mA. And there is something with the polarity of the driver.
It will work if you just need 350mA and fixed the polarity.

The LM317/LM1117 and the DX buck-drivers need two Li-Ion batteries to regulate the current.

With only 4.5V to work with the options are just limited to the Flexdrive.

@Trigger : Can you tell us about the host ?

He could use 2x 10440s and use a spacer of some kind to fill in the gap - or even use a 3rd 10440, but that's a lot of heat. If it's host with a battery holder it should be pretty easy to do. Slap in an lm317 and booya.

I am using à cree host like jayrob THE x2000 whit focus head. Only i have a smaller battery storage because of THE 3aaa batterys.

When i am home i will upload Some pics of THE host and my old driver.
But i have no furder specs of THE diode it was from à old plextor burner

Thnx for THE help

Here some pics of my host.... only need a few pars like heatsink laser housing en lens.....and maybe other battery......

here are the pics.....
on foto 4 and 5, the measurements are in mm so legnth is 75mm en
inside is the size is 23,5mm.
The red wire on foto 2 is soldern in the center on the poitive...
btw i looked at the laser and this was on it : L 9644D6 dono if says something.....

greetings from holland

i had a liitle seach on batterys i wanna use....but i have found also AAA lithium batteries...is it better when i use then....or is it till better to use 1 of the batterys that are mensioned above in the posts....

thnx

I don't recommend primary AAA lithium batteries. They are costly and the laser will eat batteries very fast. In your situation I would use two 16350 Li-ion rechargeable batteries. You can ditch the AAA and the holder. They will provide 7.4-8.4V to work with. This will allow you to use LM317/LM1117 drivers.
If I make a red laser I will use these parts.

What kind of red laser diode did you extracted ? What is the speed of the burner ?

You have to read the specs better. The dvd-burner max out at 22x. That 36x is from CD-writer speed.

Yeah sorry for that....but i had the diode run on a simple cicuit...whit a lm317 and 100ohm pot en 10ohm resistor and a capcitator....and it worked...
but i had powered it whit 3 AAA batts
