I want to get a pet

yeah man, but I don't want to just give up the duck after a couple months when it gets too big. And I duck hunt occasionally... it just seems wrong.

But I guess I will consider that.

I've had two of those types of birds. if you get two, and they get along, they need less attention as they can interact with eachother

you have a point, about the ducks, only get them if you want them specifically I just think they're cute.

Love bird sounds like a cool idea.
They are lower noise birds but they require an hour or two of play time/interaction with its master each day.
They are in fact love birds :p

I have had kakarikis and sun conures for pets. They are both really awesome birds and will learn some cool things from you like whistle riffs etc.

Although they are sometimes loud... You get used to it though :D

What will come of the puffer? Will it be re-homed?

Also a tortoise, depending on type, could be what your looking for.

I think I narrowed it down to a couple pets I would like (all birds).

1. Cockatiel
2. Lovebird
3. Parrotlet

Be careful with buying a bird. General rule of thumb is the larger the bird, the longer it will live. There are other factors as well, bu it is still pretty much true.

We have a cockatiel, he's 22 years old. My wife has had him longer than she's had me. :D

Again be careful. While this is true, so is the opposite. If one bird is an "A" type, it will dominate the other bird and sometimes be violent about it. Then you will have to get separate cages. You can put them near each other, just don't allow physical contact.

If you want a bird, think canary or parakeet. They have shorter lives. But also get rid of any teflon cookware you have. The fumes from the heating pots will kill the birds. My neighbor gassed 2 canaries before they found out what was the cause.

And if you still go the bird route, find out how loud it can get with the calls. Our cockatiel can get ear piercing loud, but he can't maintain it, some birds can. If you're in an apartment, you may have a problem with the neighbors.

Good luck.

Will your pet be in the room you sleep in or a different room?
cause if it is in your room, you will want a pet that is absolutely silent.
I kept my hamster in my room and his squeaking wheel would keep me up at times.
So I ended up buying the most high quality hamster wheel I could and it was nice and quiet.

I'm keeping my Puffer. I just wanted a pet that I can actually hang out with I guess. My Puffer is cool, just not really the type to interact with you :p

No, I won't have the bird cage in the same room I sleep, but I also don't want a loud bird. So that's something else I will have to look into.

I don't know anything about weasels or their care, but search youtube for "Ozzy the Weasel". If you say you don't want a weasel after watching them I'll know your lying :)

if you sleep at night, and have a dark room, a bird should be silent, at least until daylight, pretty much all birds become more vocal in the morning. I sometimes have the cage in my room as I sleep, my grey keeps quiet. covering the cage helps

I have a pair of cockatiels, they're great birds but they can be noisy at times. Very easy to look after, don't require much space or food otherwise.

Ducks are cool but you need a backyard with dedicated space for them - duck poo's are a sloppy mess, not to mention they stink, they destroy your yard a bit.
