I just changed the themes, sounds, pictures, screensavers, etc, to look like Vista. I didn't bother changing the desktop icons though, I didn't feel like tracking down another file to download.

I also used an application called "TrueTransparency" that gives the same effect as Windowsblinds.
Notice the transparent windows: (Who would pay $20 for just THAT?  :-?)

I was about to say another one turned into a sheep. That looks very good. I've been using something called Xpize. I've been happy with it. It doesn't use much as far as resources go.
 
lol i could tell you werent using vista...either of you. ::) vista is minus the run option in the start menu. in vista all you have to do is type cmd in the start menu search bar to get to command prompt. ;D

p.s. wassa matta? you no likey da vista? ::)

I don't see a reason to get it :-/ It's fail really. That's why they're working on Windows 7 now :D
 
i didnt have a choice...i got a dell in '07 and vista came installed on it. i could have used a pirated copy or a linux distro but i just got used to vista. its not so bad now that theyve released some good updates for it but its still a little buggy... ::)

if you think about it all windows OS have been buggy at first release. my dad had win 95 on an old pc of his and wouldnt update to win 98 when it first came out b/c of bugs. its just microsofts history to release buggy software...
 
I could tell it wasn't vista too, mainly because I used to run a vista theme too , but my computer is so full of junk now that it got too slow. Might just install the real thing ;)

I have had Vista since late August and I think it works fine. The only major drawback I've had is that the 64 bit version doesn't allow unsigned drivers, or something like that. Anyway it made it impossible to install a video encoding program. Something I've done has seriously messed with my computer, as DAEMON Tools stopped working because "the application needs Windows 2000 or newer to operate" and I can't reinstall it. I also can't install new graphic card drivers. I will reinstall Windows in a day or two, but in between I will try the leaked Windows 7 beta. Will return with reports on that.

I find it interesting that you like UAC. You are the first person I know of that does like it. IMO, it is nothing but a royal pain in the ***. That is one of the first things I disable.

Vista is okay. There are a few things I don't like about it that keeps me from using it as my main OS on my desktop. It is a RAM hog. I haven't tried gaming with it since I upgraded to 4 gig. I know it would stutter like crazy with 2 gig but I have no problems with 2 gig on XP. That may have something to do with the HD accessing. The HD is accessed a lot during games. Four gig of RAM might fix that. It is slow. I don't think I need to say anything more about that. There is too much unnecessary crap in it. An install of Vista is over twice the size of XP if the OS is the only thing installed.
 
I agree. UAC is good for the average Joe that goes to Wal-Mart to buy a computer and doesn't know much about computers. I've known way too many people that have all kinds of junk on their computer. They want me to clean it up but then the cycle repeats.
 
I use vista on my laptop and desktop. It's what everyone has now. I don't see why everyone is whining and fussing about it. It's actually really nice. I do use Vista 64 on one of my computers, which does take a lot of ram. Larger amounts of ram are getting cheaper now so it's not all that bad. I'm hoping to have 8gb soon, lol. Almost there, 2gb away. As for UAC, for me it's a pain in the ass. If you're a "computer-dumb" person (as I call them), all of vistas "computer-dumb" saving features are a bonus.
 
yeah, i agree, i've stuck to windows xp for a long time, and I'm going to wait to see how windows 7 turns out, but I hate windows vista. Damn annoying confirmations over everything (move, copy, execute, anything) and I always have to disable UAC, always have to get ready to double click confirmation windows, the new layout confuses me, especially the office 2007 layout that's for windows vista. It would be nice if they just simply added new features without changing to the whole rearrangement of the display as a total makeover to make it seem like they've massively changed everything.
