I am trying to make a quick connect, to attach my driver to my diode. This is an experiment and I want to know if anyone has the ribbon cable from a BR sled that they desoldered from the diode. Usually they are trashed, but if anyone has one hanging around they want to send. PM me and I will gladly pay for your trouble. I already bought my diodes from HighTechDealz (which were excellent)installed in the Aix Mod so I did not have to harvest them from the sled. Still waiting on the correct rckstr drivers from StoneTeK that I ordered, so I am playing with an idea I have for the soldering challenged people out there.
Any help will be great.

NEVER EVER use any type of quick connect to attach a diode to a driver unless you really just love killing diodes. The connection between the diode and driver must be properly soldered because if the connection loses contact even for a millisecond while in operation.. bye-bye diode. There's really no way to ensure that the connection will remain solid no matter what unless you solder.
 
EF said it all ;) but if you are still interested in the flex ckt for the LD's I have several full length ones from LPC, GGW & AS-FW210 sleds you are welcome to for like $.01 each min order is $100.00 LOL REALY you can have all you want for nothing...

It's not worth the risk imo. Just take your time and pace yourself! I almost trashed a GGW diode because I was in a hurry to get it out of the heatsink. Lol.. now I have an open can GGW :undecided:.

Yeah, I have one of those too. I don't think the quick connect is a good idea since it really is not worth the risk. It's easier to just buy the diode already pre-soldered
 
What you might want to try instead is using the connector and ribbon from the brushless spindle motor in a DVD drive. They're made for handling relatively high currents, and you will have an actual quick-release connector to work with on the PCB that can hold the cable in securely.

If you really want to go the way of the sled cable, I would just buy a new sled and leave the cable attached. Those things are a bitch to remove, let alone solder back on without bridging the connections or melting the plastic. Then you have the problem of connecting the cable at the other end (which you won't have with the brushless ribbon cable connector)
 
Maybe I did not totally explain my self and sorry for the confusion. I want the ribbon cable to use as an exact pattern for the pinouts, thats all. And when I mean quick connect, that is some thing you all will see later. I know that a socket type application is not a good idea, and I agree with you all on frying the diode if it comes loose, but what I purpose, will make soldering the wires to the diodes faster and a lot easier for the, jittery of hand people like me. Flaminpyro said he would send a few ribbon connections to me, so I promised him a prototype for his trouble. But again thanks for the good suggestions and stay tuned for more details.

Plus, I am in the final stages of a full Aix Mod, mountable heat sink, again stay tuned.

Well not all sockets are bad really. They're actually quite grippy on the pins, so you'd have to go through some extra effort to rip it off. Pair it up with some hot glue, and it won't pop off at all.

There are ways you could make it work, but if you're using any sort of expensive diode, you'll want to solder just for peace of mind. That's all I'm saying. I'd hate to lose an 8X just because I tried to hook it up with a quick-connect of some sort.

@ Tymtravler the ribbion cables are on there way as I type.
