I have $25 at DX...

I think eye safety is a little over exaggerated here. Personally, I'm confident that I could survive in today's world without the various "Do not put your hand in the blender" type labels. Common sense is the best safety. ::)
But if you're extra cautious I guess it doesn't matter...
I'd rather save $60 on goggles I don't need.

How do you stand looking at the dot when burning stuff if you don't have goggles. The dot from a 50mw laser is already incredibly bright on a wall 20 feet away. I can't imagine staring at it on a close object.
 
its called squinting or putting on sunglasses. Yea i know that they don't protect your eyes. But the dot will still be darker than originally without them. You just have to be careful

Maybe my eyes are [relatively] insensitive but I have no problem looking at the dot close up...
I don't think 50mW is that bright... :-?
 
do you watch allot of T.V or look at a computer screen allot? there have been tests that have proven people who do either of those around 2 hours a day are less sensitive to brighter lights.

It looks pretty nice/durable. I don't need the most output either, i just want good quality(for DX) and a bright beam.
 
it's not. But trying to look at 500mw of green, even on a matte black surface, will give you vision spots for DAYS.
Even a green I've tested averaging 350mw and only peaking at 408 is too damn bright to look at. Should you get even a small reflection off a weirdly shaped object, you WILL have retina damage. If you manage to get a full reflection you will have severe burns.
You only have 2 eyes, they are valuable. Take care of them.

It looks nice, I think it can be made waterproof too.
If you get something that runs on CR123As you should probably get http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.936 and http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.936.
These are rechargeable... the primaries go for $8 each, so those should save you some money in the long run.

I'm gonna go with the rominsen one with rechargables and recharger.

Thanks everybody, i'll only have to spend like 2 bucks out of my own pocket!
 
Romisen L-A030 only $20 and its a really good laser good qulaity, except the PCB but thats an easy fix, I've managed to smoke black plastic with mines ( had a lens tho i can cut black bags without a lens ), and I'm only using 3V batteries , it also has a nice tight beam with good divergence, its visible in a lit room aswell !!

;D I hope if you get it its as good as mines ;D

So you know, I'm using duracell 3V Li-Ions that aren't rechargeable, but they only cost £1.99 each, and they last 2-3 hours, then it is still as bright but it flickers slightly then after another hour or two it just doesnt really work . then you put new bats in and away you go !

whats this problem with the PCB?

I prob won't get for about a month, but i hope sooner. They put the order in about 2 days ago, and it hasn't shipped out yet.

Much better rechargeables sold by AW at cpf and on light hound, slightly more pricey but last far longer, have a better protection, and actually have 700-750 mah compared to ultra-super-trust fire's 350-450 mah
