I broke my damn Flexdrive. Can someone ID a component for me?

I was working on a build, and I managed to bollocks up my FlexDrive. I hooked it up to the test load one last time, and I got nothing from it. Upon inspection, I noticed one of the components (as well as part of the trace for it :yabbmad:) was missing.

I've exposed the rest of the trace and I'm pretty sure I can solder the whatsit back down if I can find a replacement. Can anyone help me out with identification? I think it might be a cap from what I've read, but that's just a guess. See the attached pic for details. The one circled in red is missing.

It is a capacitor, but I have no clue what resistance and wattage it would be.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. :(
 
hmm. Yes, either a damn capacitor or a damn resistor; i'm actually banking on damn resistor. Definitely one of the two - finding the value is the issue.

I'm wondering if anyone else here may have a picture of a damn flexdrive that actually has value markings on the damn components; as far as I know, some of them have?

In all serousness, it should be repairable, actually. I'm kind of surprised there aren't any markings on the SMT component there but, that may be to keep the damn thing from being cloned, heh.
 
I think it is a capacitor. The resistors looks like the black ones and they have numbers on it. The missing one is just blank. I would try the value as in the LM317 DIY driver.

Or someone have to desolder his own flexdrive and measure the capacity.
 
I'd go with Capacitor as well... Normally resistors are identified
with some type of marking and are usually black in color while
ceramic capacitors are generally that caramel color without markings.

Are you sure the problem is that part ?? How did it come off...:thinking:
They are soldered in place and require quite a bit of heat or
great mechanical stress to remove....

I honestly don't know how I lost that part. Suffice it to say, I wasn't being super-extra-careful with it. Maybe it got scraped off with an alligator clip, or it might have happened when I dropped it. Also, this particular driver has been reset, soldered, and de-soldered at least a half-dozen times, so maybe it's time had come.

I would like to salvage it, though. I had it pumping out over 1.6A before I broke it, and I really want to see that run through a blue diode. . .

I'm surprised that you didn't have problems with the pot.
When flex's are reset sometimes more than once, the knob has a tendency of falling off.

Someone has to have a junk flex laying somewhere that they can measure the cap...
 
If in doubt, email Dr. Lava and ask him what it is. He is very helpful in those matters and you can probably just find a replacement part online if needed.

You can also just measure the value and see what it is. A capacitor will block current so you'll know immediately what it is.
 
filter cap is my guess. Looks like it is connected to the ground plane maybe?
I bet it is a factor of 47 :whistle:
