How do you store your batteries?

I have a friend who's Li-On batteries exploded in his pocket during use... not that these bags would be very practical during use..

I know two people here in Belgium who lost there house with lipo's
Both where radio controlled related and both cases havy Lipo pacs
Of more than 50 amps 35 c 's did start fires deu to low discharge while at discharging -charging mode
In the first times both guys have always been charging outdoors
And after a while when they thought it was safe enough
They yust started to sharge the whole packs inside even later even in there planes
Than suddenly when they where remarking there was no electricity flames where lurking out there garages taking there cars and there cars combusting the whole house
They can be very dangerous and even more in humid conditions
Lipo is not exact the same as life but in general it best to tread them like grenades do not trigger them
Sins I saw the damage they can do I'll keep mine in a Lipo bag as well
Before I left them in a stone pot on my workbench
Now they are in the Lipo bag
Steel money saves are a good alternative as well if insulated against shorts

Thats a sad story, I hope they didnt lose everything. Stories like these make me want to charge my batteries in a bulletproof and fireproof box. :eg:

One did lost his compleet house ( ironically he was a helicopter rescue man and had been two weeks working on a forest fire yust before ,normally he is in the traffic police shopper)
Now he was on his sofa watching tv ...
The other guy only his garage and two cars get destroyed
And had only mayor smoke damage in the house as the garage was not compleet fixed on the house only with a smal corner and door connection
The rescue guy had his garage as part of the house
But both where also flying model jets and had plastic jerrycans stoked in there places
In both cases the model planes did spread the fires ad did ignite al those other highly combustible products you know those model flyers stock
Kerosene ,methanol , usually lots of paints and thinners
Wich most of laser enthusiasts not have around
Non the less it's better to be carefully with al kinds of battery's
Lead nc nmhi Lipo life they all stock a huge amount of power
So always be better in controll of it before they go out of control
But I have to admit sometimes I find one in a laser as good as empty
Usually there is no kerosene around then ;)

Considering these bags are a DX product, i wonder what kind of protection they actually offer. I'm sure you couldnt safely set off a handgrenade in one, but that would be the limit of protection at all?

Normally these bags mostly prevent flashover and deter some low energy shrapnell but nothing beyond that... which could in some situations still prevent a fire.

This is how I store my lithium ion cells.

They are all "brand name" cells (Samsung, LG, Panasonic)
that have passed UL #1642 safety testing.
