I'm trying to find out what one of the most popular hosts is.

Have an idea?

Obviously everyone likes different hosts, but what is the most universal host the majority of people want/have?

I found this host a while back that has proved to be quite versatile:

The DX sku 3405 host can use 3.6 volt batteries for a DDL or a rkcstr driver...

Or if you want to use a FlexDrive, you just use normal AAA batteries. This set up will also give you the option of using AAA rechargeable batteries, such as Sanyo eneloop.

I found another nice host that takes 3 X AAA sized batteries but it is a side button style. Very nice too:

Another very popular host is the DX sku 4171 first showed by Daedal (DDL). I have heatsinks fit for them as well:

There is literally no end to the hosts that can be modified. Probably the most popular one that I have in my kits, is the Pocket Mini:

I like the 3405 myself. I had it anodized by Dark Horse. I see some builders (not Jayrob) calling their builds art work LOL. They build the same lasers over and over. There is not one thing original about them. But this host is art work with an Igor built 6X GGW @ >220mW with an AixiZ 405 glass lens.

OMG that looks sxc!! is that custom heatsink or is that plastic.. can't really see!
 
Jayrob special. I had the heat sink anodized a solid color to give it contrast.

There is no module in my picture. Dark Horse took that picture before he sent it to me. For some reason my camera does no pick up the color like his does.

@ TJ WOW that host is beautiful it looks like one of the best ! I'm going to have to work more now so I can afford to have some of mine done up like that...

until that happens this is so far is my favorite host it cost a little more but the fit and finish and the side clickie and built in 1/4-20 threaded bushing is well worth the extra cost.

Nice work FP. If I didnt already have a heat sink I'd get you to make me one. Do you seal the copper so it does not tarnish?

Dark Horse does great work, you should contact him. Dark Horse Custom An anodized dark gold on your host would look the bomb.
 
Thanks for saying so, after machining this one was only polished for a few min with fine carbide, in the furture I plan on putting on a mirror finish to the copper with a buffing wheel and then gold plating them it will last quite a while before the copper migrates to the surface or I could do a nickle strike before the gold and it would last a long time but now we are talking more time more money heck maby I should just chrome plate them and get it over with LOL....

No..V1 Jayrob HS The V2 is a flush mount. Same as pictured above, but for an AixiZ module.

Between the HS, host, and anodizing, you could probably run a 2W diode without a problem. Its a lot of aluminum, and the anodizing makes transfer much more efficient. Plus the 3405 is just a great flashlight. I bought 2 more for use as flashlights.

I like the 4171 host, its pretty easy to work with since it has a good amount of internal space to put your driver in.

You might want to the a specifically made adapter to mount the module, which is probably the easiest option. You can, however, also get the job done with proper sided metal rings and a little effort.
 
Both nice hosts, but different battery supplies. Which is a consideration, depending on your diode and driver choice...
