homemade laser

hi every one im new to this website and i have well had a green laser pointer and now its diode died and i am building my own violet or red laser pointer and i was wondering can i still use the same driver or do i have to get a new one its not pot modded or anything i just removed the old diode and im going to solder a new laser diode from a dvd burner.

and i live in australia these things are banned here but still manage to get it .

Yes but you need to make a dummy load to set the current right and some diode information you have to look up yourself

hmm seen like i dont have time to build a dummy board so the driver i have so far wont work?

it can, but you have to set the current. if the current driver is set too high it might blow your new diode.

My 100mW green laser pen draws 600mA. At this currents, most reds and violets will die so you should build a dummy load to adjust the output.

i dont thinks it high because this is a 100mW pocket laser and it only uses 1 aaa sized battery which is 1.5 volts

That doesnt mean it´s harmless. It might use 1.5v but it boosts to around 3 to meet the diode`s voltage and current.

yes it does and i didnt play around with it because i know what it does it put more or less power to the diode

hi i have done some research and i am going to buy this driver 650-600nm 200-250mW Laser Diode Driver Constant current | eBay

and a PHR-803T sled from ebay do u think this will work?

you should measure your old driver to see if it's the same size and will fit inside your pen first

yea it should if not a have a wider empty texta which it can fit in smoothly

that driver might supply too much current, even on lowest setting.
I suggest this Constant current laser diode driver 80-500mA w/TTL | eBay or get two for the future 2pcs constant current laser diode driver 80-500mA w/TTL | eBay shipping is only for the first one (then 10c)
and make a test load to set them
