hi every one im new to this website and i have well had a green laser pointer and now its diode died and i am building my own violet or red laser pointer and i was wondering can i still use the same driver or do i have to get a new one its not pot modded or anything i just removed the old diode and im going to solder a new laser diode from a dvd burner.

and i live in australia these things are banned here but still manage to get it :).
thanks

My 100mW green laser pen draws 600mA. At this currents, most reds and violets will die so you should build a dummy load to adjust the output.

That doesnt mean it´s harmless. It might use 1.5v but it boosts to around 3 to meet the diode`s voltage and current.

so does it have a potentiometer on it?

you should measure your old driver to see if it's the same size and will fit inside your pen first :)
