Has anyone tried this?

Untitled.png

I suck at MS paint :p

It will project a magnified version of what is on the mirror on a wall

the laser has to have a close FP so the image expands when it is reflected on the wall. and also a tripod for the laser is probably required for a steady image.

here is a website someone made showing a similar concept (video too.)

use a FS mirror for better imaging, gaussian lensing distortion, I'd hazard to guess, but it is very neat. For you IT types, I'm sure you have some HD platters lying around, those are great FS mirrors, just on the large side.

Also, if your sample can handle the heat, focus the laser down to a spot and you will increase magnification.

I've been wanting to do this too. I didnt know a HD platter would work. I think I threw away a dead laptop drive yesterday :(
I need some weaker lasers though, I dont have any under ~30mw.

I did this with my Viasho 1.2W system, I'll have to dig out the pictures. Projected onto a large wall on the other side of the room. :D

EDIT: Jerry, you're correct. It's mrgoogfan / Uranium.

If you go with green, IR filter it.
I did a test I'm going to post on readings with a DIY IR Digital Thermometer.
When I added an IR filter from scontony at the opening of a green its reading dropped 2/3's! Your specimens will last longer. ;)
The beam looked the same................

Yay! Found them. Here's my rig (ignore the course-of-study planners):

The wall is about 35 feet away; you can see the HeNe laser that proved the concept in the second picture.

I have tried this too. No reflecting required, just shine the laser through your sample.
