Ok well that's fine, TTL could be pretty useful as well actually, I'll scrounge hard online for a manual too. Mine are good for my age and my dad's an electrical engineer so we'll put our heads together!

The UK postal service is that bad that no UK supplier will send tubes by post anymore, they all do delivery by own transport.

A 60 watt PSU on an 80 watt tube will go bang

I'll ask my courier what US post is like but I don't hold out much hope.

I've got 200 1kv diodes I need to solder into a bridge rectifier at some point

Standard diodes aren't going to work an an SMPS. They have to be fast diodes, preferably ultrafast or schottky. The reverse recovery time (Trr) on the datasheet should be a fraction of 1/operating frequency. Schottkies are the best, but high voltage ones are fairly new to the market and very expensive. If you're unsure of the operating frequency, it's probably best to get something with Trr < 25ns.

Yep I got diodes for that specification to operate with the highest frequency of my half bridge flyback driver, I think around 40KHz. But now I'm being kindly given a DC power supply by Dave they are left for another project.

Yes, I am looking for 60 to 90 watt tubes with life still in them, psus to match,, lenses, and mirrors, mounts, colomators.

Spoke to Kelvin, he has a 150 watt RECI tube due to be swapped out if that's any good my friend? (nominal 130watt but peaks at 150 - 165 watt)

I'll hunt about and see if I can find any PSU's suitable.

I've never seen a NST over 15kV, and current is usually 30mA or 60mA as far as I know. Are you sure you're remembering that right? If so, please share

This is one time I do mean quite literally, as in they are on the floor of the junk room and get tripped over on a weekly basis along with old spares that are from earlier machines. Was digging about today and found a Clarke CL300 lathe that had never been used along with matching milling machine. I remembered buying them ages ago to make a small part I needed then found a spare one of the original parts in the store.Hence the machines didn't get used.(along with a 300 SWL stamping head from an old press that I stubbed my toes on while climbing about)

"I'll clean it out next week" is a phrase I often use

ps: I did manage to find my £300 vernier while looking for a memory card for the camera, the same vernier I replaced yesterday because I thought I'd lost it!! <grrr>

Should have been 15kV 30mA. Although I have 2 of them, so I suppose I could put them in series for 30kV, but I wouldn't wanna risk the insulation breaking down. One hell of an arc in parallel though

They aren't that special Dan, none of the mid range fatbody tubes are. Once you get used to cutting a bit faster than the lower powers the novelty kinda wears off.
Even the Mitsubishi has limited "laser" appeal, after the first few weeks it's just a noisy machine that makes lots of sparks while it works.

The 180watt PSU is 40kV at 35mA and the arc from that is a trouser filler when the tube fails

Looking at my courier it costs as much to ship it from the Uk to the US as buying a new one direct from China!
