That is a cute little host for the HID lights. It looks like the big brother of the DRY host.

Oh I thought you were talking about an HID light...

Thanks for the links!

That's a cool light!

4300k for the win.

Also, generally speaking, with ebay HID stuff the wattage listed on ballasts is the input wattage, and includes ballast inefficiency.

also, can anybody say boost driver? 85V nom output, 24000v on startup :p

last, be wary of UV. Sometimes, bulb makers will slack and not make the outer envelope out of UV absorb, but out of regular glass. This would still probably be just longer UV waves, but it still may be present and possibly dangerous.

I've been wanting to just get a cheapo spotlight and drop in a cheapo 55W kit, but I don't have room for something that bulky, nor a need for something that throwy. The cool factor in these firefoxes is that they are standard flashlight shape, extremely carryable, and spit out more lumens than most cars' headlights (yes, plural, both headlights put together).

Yes very small!

One thing not shown in beam shots, is the dot at close range. The FF3 blows them all away. It is perfectly centered and nice and round. Similar to a really bright LED. I'm guessing it's due to a perfectly set bulb position in a very well designed reflector made specifically for HID:

I can't believe how much light the Fire-Foxes III puts out. It seems like more than the 42W spec says.

It's so small and lightweight too. And I should also mention that it warms up twice as fast as the other lights I compared it to, including the Magic Scorpion...

The quality of the finish, and the workmanship is the highest. It is perfection!

It is comparable in brightness and throw to the larger, more powerful lights that I showed.

At this point, it seems impossible to be any better. (size vs brightness)

Because if you go for more power, you will sacrifice run time and/or size...

Well there's part of the reason right there! the return wire doesn't have to be integrated into the bulb base, so no thick insulator needed! It does look like these are much better quality than the typical things we get from that part of the earth.

You should get some filters for it, like an IR pass filter, see if it makes a good illuminator for your camera at night or something

The great thing about HIDs is their efficiency. They can still be very efficient while still keeping their surface brightness very high, so they can still be focused very well.

LEDs are catching up, though.

That FF3 40W is amazing!

I have to get one.

I looked on the manufacturers site and they say $630 each and Alibaba says $620 so very expensive

Any place where I can get one for cheaper?

The 20th light just got taken two days ago for the group buy:
Fire-Foxes III 40 watt HID For Sale Searchlight GROUP BUY FireFox III 3

In the GB, I got such a great price on it... (not trying to rub it in)

I got it brand new and pristine perfect for $305 shipped!

You should message Lips and see if he is planning another GB, because most likely he will...

Wow--was a great deal you got--looks to be a serious quality piece.

I saw FF3 Elite 4300K and the FF3 Elite 600K in nice wooden box--those are $400-$450

then there is the Enterprise edition at $620 ---would guess it includes both 4300K and 6000K but am not sure what the difference is.

Thanks. Will ask about another group buy or maybe if someone passes I can get in on the current one.

This discounted GB did not include a nice wood box or anything like that...

The light came in a foam lined cardboard box.

But no complaints! I'm just going to use a camera lens case for mine...

Wow, lots of interesting items from that seller! I remember when finding cylindrical ballasts meant learning mandarin and forking out insane amounts of money.

Just curious, do you remember if the bulb was removable on that ebay ballast, and if so, got pics or recognize teh base?

It's the same ballast that fits all those ebay HID lights shown in their sales pages...

The bulb looks glued into the ballast. They sell the ballast with bulb for about $30 bucks.

Here's the video they showed me for easy replacement:

Multi emitters LEDS have caught up. Dry 3T6 is decent on Turbo for 20 seconds before it steps down into regulated mode.
APEX is 5T6 ( w factory mod) is worth looking at

Does anybody compare the fire foxes FF3 with the 85W ebay HID which is 4300k.please show the beamshot.
