5W's of 445 is possible, but as you said not even close to that prize.

Do you proper safety goggles before getting such a laser? =)

Yes red protection glasses I had a 100mw green laser (I believe it was way less didn't even burn a match ) but trying to adjust the potentiometer the switch broke and got separated from the board contacts

Great! What is your budget for this laser?

100$ or less as long as it can cut through nylon cords, the more power the better, prefer blue but other colors are fine, buying from eBay is a risk since most wattage is not certified or properly tested, I'm kinda skeptical on that one

Unfortunately $100 isn't going to be quite enough. 2W's of 445 is already above $100 so expect to pay $300+ for 5W's of it.

Does 445 make any difference that's just the wavelength isn't it? What's a good price for a 2w? Or something that can burn/cut nylon?

445nm gives you the most power for the money. I have two of them myself, I never ran any tests on nylon though but they burn stuff easily. I am guessing you will want 1.5W or more, so you should plan on at least $150 if not more, and that's not including batteries, and a charger if you don't have them.

Nylon? That stuff does not burn easily.
Plus it is usually translucent white, which
is the most difficult to burn color next to
clear. Then when it does burn, it gives
off toxic smoke. There are like thousands
of better/easier/less nasty things to
burn.

Sigh... another newbie low-baller who doesn't do any research of his own, asking about some too-good-to-be-true garbage on eBay, and just wants to burn stuff. This is not what the hobby needs.

So, lets see what might have a nylon cord, maybe those kiosk things that are full of ipods and such, and which, if you could burn the cord, you'd get a free ipod, etc?

I think cutting these cords is stealing. I think asking about what to cut them with is not something we want to publish.

:D

better then all those idiots who shine lasers at aircrafts dont see the harm in this.

Better than downing aircraft and getting lasers banned, etc...but, not great if used to cut nylon cords used in those kiosk things to win ipads and so forth...

...as if used in crimes, even not involving airplanes, they can STILL get lasers banned, etc. All it takes is some freshman politician who needs a cause for a new bill he could sponsor, etc.

IE: The EXAMPLE he gave as WHAT he wanted to burn was nylon cord...not rope/string/nylon fishing line, etc...
