Help for low powered 445nm pointer

I bought and assembled a 1W 445nm laser kit from Stonetek with "blue M" host Nichia 2+ WATT + 445nm A-140 diode ! BRILLIANT BLUE ! [A140] - $45.99 : StoneTek Electronics, Your Laser Parts Store

But I'm totally disappointed when with the batteries fully charged I obtain a beam of 200-205 mW in continuous and a peak of 212 mW

Do you think that the problem was due by the batteries?

What driver are you using, and did you set it using a testload before connecting
it to the diode? To what value did you set it?
Why is that diode housing sticking out so far out the heatsink?
Do you have a glass lens or acrylic?

In the end, I guess the batteries might be at fault, depending on how much
current you are trying to draw from them, but hey, AAAs are not exactly the
recommended power source for an 445nm! :na:

Nope, I mounted the diode inside the module and I directly solder the driver to the diode but the guy that sold to me told that it was calibrated for 1W...

There is no space to put it internal... I don't know why...

Do you have a glass lens or acrylic?

...according to the manual, the driver should be set approx. between 100 and 400 mA

400ma is not enough to power a diode to 1W. You need about 1000ma.

And your module is sticking out because you just want to use the end where the diode is pressed into and where the lens threads are.

And you should never use an acrylic lens for a laser pushing 1W+, You need a glass lens.

Hmm... Maybe you just have a different module...
The back end should screw off and you should be left with the front end where the diode and lens go.

Yes you are right but the driver placed into its housing seems to me more protected...:thinking:
