HELP! Dropped my LPC826 build...

So I'm in the middle of writing up a build post and tutorial with pics and everything on my brand new LPC826 build (in a C6 host with a 530mA driver), Here's the problem... When I took it outside to play with it I dropped it. Maybe 1-2 feet, onto a brick surface. I picked it up and it still turns on but now it's just a very, very dim red light. I don't think it's IR because reds don't use IR do they?

What can I do?? I've tried new batteries and everything... my solder connections still look good...

Please help!! Very sad :( :( :(

Well, if you can snag a picture of the output, I may be able to tell you for certain.
 
Yeah something internal may have broken ,bond wire jarred loose, etc

Go to Google and search dtr laser. He's got diodes pre pressed, and even pre-wired to drivers if you want to upgrade.

I already checked DTR but there are a couple problems.
1) I don't think he's US based so shipping will take forever
2) he doesn't have the LPC826... The other reds won't work either because I've got the driver set at 530mA and his I saw could only handle like 350.

However I did think of something... If I bought the diode from eBay maybe I could send it to you or someone else to press into a module since I don't have that equipment. I actually have a module already with this old diode in it so I supposed I could mail it to the same person so they could just swap the diodes out.

OR... Is there a good tutorial for removing and pressing diodes without a real diode press? I would search but I'm on mobile right now.

Use a c clamp and a socket. I don't have diode presses, I just turn around the aluminum cylinder and press it in, and sink it in with a socket.

Dtr has diodes pre wired to the driver already for $100.
You could have about 500mw of 638nm. Brighter than 650nm but multimode. The 120mw version are single mode if you're looking for a cleaner dot. But if you need that specific diode, ebay may be your best bet, and if you need, I can press it in.
 
Man that sucks!
I dropped one of my laser on to a cement floor, I was lucky enough to not to brake it..
After that, all of my lasers now have wrist straps... best thing you could ever have for lasers and flashlights..

Thanks for the tip. I've got several C clamps so I might try that sometime. I even thought about it before but I just never understood how you pressed it without damaging the pins... I'll look up a video now that I'm back on my Mac.

I don't really want to spend that much since I've already got a driver and module, all I need is a $20 diode. I talked with Jmillerdoc and he suggested I just get an LPC836 which can handle the 530mA current better anyways, and he will press it in for free. Thanks for the offer though :yh:

Ah... Lucky you :p
A wrist strap wouldn't help in this situation, it actually rolled off a chair it was sitting on. I shoulda known it wold roll.. DUH! IT'S ROUND! Learned my lesson though.. Lol.
