Help dismantling aries style laser

well not if the driver isnt output enough current i wont get 200mw.

yeah but now ive got one working ive gota give him some money lol
Yeah, it was meant for 0.5W pump or something. Still, if you can see the driver, perhaps you can replace or modify it for higher current output which should make it nice 200mW unit (hopefully).

What, keeping the laser eh? Wow gee, I wonder why...
I'd sure pay some amount for a host like that, I'd give it one of those 300 or 400 modules from O-like, with some custom machining ...

Oh I'm just daydreaming now :D
Good work on the laser

im getting a nice 5mw of 532nm lol
Rotation of the crystal is also important to achieve maximum efficiency possible.

Just keep wigling the diode/crystal setup, you'll get powerfull beam quite soon.

Just remember, as I always say:
When things start to go downhill, stop. Take a break, relax.
Don't get the frustration get the best of you, otherwise you just end up making more damage than good, and endig up more frustrated.

If you cannot get it right, just leave them be, and pickup the fight tomorrow.
We don't want no dead RPL/aries style lasers here.

Keep it cool, and preferably lasing!

lol i am cool dont worry.

just checked im getting about 800-900mw of 808 through the first lens so it is just an alignment issue

Then you should be able to get 200mW of green after that.
Awsome...

BTW, I have a cheapo crystal mount from cheapo DX 5mW greenie.
I'm tihinking of pumping it with 1W diode, could I expect it to die or melt on me anytime soon?
I had a 1W IR laser shined into it, focused down to pinpoint and shot at the crystal. Very nice flashes of green and everything.
But what about durability?

In my experience the coatings on those little hybrid crystals are quite durable. You should be able to hit it with 1W for quite awhile..

Nice... well I'd only stick the crystal mount on the 9mm diode can, without focusing optic between it.
With some luck in alligment and orientation of crystal, I am hoping for 100mW of green.

Entire thing would be pressfited into 9mm diode housing from O-like, and I would replace the lens in the holder with one from the green module from which that crystal came from.

Should result in nice focusable DIY greenie...

Sorry for thread jacking, damn. :D

ill ave a play tomorrow see what i can do.

pumping 1watt into crystals designed for 5mw probably wouldnt work very well

Actually they are not designed for 5 mW, ALL of DX newwish type laser crystals are the same, they just make a huge batch of same lasers and since they have a poor quality control, they sort out the lasers by their prox power output.

Basically they are all exactly the same. At least judging from what I've heard.

So such crystal should handle 1W uncollimated light at least.

Well, no point in arguing without facts, I will try it out soon enough and let all'ya know!
Perhaps I even get it working

ok so i have the crystal in and im getting two beams and about 100mw

i then add the first focusing lens, well thats what i believe it is and i get an output power of just 30mw

anyone got any clues as to the power loss?

Keep aligning it.
TEM01 mode is usually -almost-aligned- state...

Two beams are not centered and most of 'em get cut off at final output lens, hence the power loss.
^This is all my opinion only, not speaking from experience. Just from what I've learned so far about those things.

i can only get two beams with just the crystals on, no single beam
Nah, getting a single beam, TEM00 is possible.
How easy it is depends from crystal to crystal.

Just keep trying, you'll get it right once.
One other thing, the entire module seems to have enormus quantity of glue used, try removing as much as possible between the crystal and diode mount to make your job a lot easier, and cleaner.

Take it slow my man, you will get the job done, I know it!
Takes time and patience.

i cannot get a single beam through the crystals end of.

anyone else tried to realign a laser like this before?

Well, a thought did occure to me, perhaps that you are feeding it twice the power it is meant for has something to do with it?
Alligment kind of sucks, huh?

I am sorry that I cannot be of any more help here :( , as much as I'd like to.

My opto that i took apart also has 2 beams coming out of the crystal. seems as if the final optic combines them . I could be wrong.
