when i was younger, sparks Nevada was my favorite city because i thought it had an awesome name
i can try to help you to get your avatar to work- the common reasons for it not working would be the image is too big/etc

secondly, about the avatar. In the place where you upload the photo/ enter the URL for a photo, make sure you check that little white box there to say that you want a custom avatar. I spent about an hour trying to upload my avatar and i had this same problem. It wasnt too big, wasnt too large (dimensions wise), i just forgot to press that box like 50 times... :
