Hello all!!
I have to say, this is an exciting place. I just started to look around and I am so very impressed with how extensive this forum is and how knowledgeable the members are.
A little about myself:
Born and raised in the mid-west United States. I have 2 beautiful children, a boy and girl ages 2 and 6 respectively. I work in the plastics industry as a process engineer. Physics is kind of a hobby of mine (amongst other things, comics, automotive restoration, outdoors/survival, yadda yadda yadda....).
I like to think of myself as pragmatic, progressive, and highly motivated .
I own a few 5mw laser pointers, both 532nm wavelengths. Which really is plenty for what I use it for. My oldest is fascinated with astronomy, so its nice to be able to point at stars and show her the constellations. But after finding out there is a community of laser builders out there, I thought it would be fun to try and build one.
I really feel terrible for the folks who have hurt themselves because they were unaware of how dangerous a high powered laser can be, or just careless :tsk:. I own a pair of laser safety glasses and ordered more on the way before I undergo my first build. Also just received some sound advice about not relying on safety keys and removal of batteries when not in use, thanks RedCowboy and marcuspeh! :yh:
Well, can't wait to get to it and soak up this wealth of knowledge known as LPF! Drop a line and say hi, look forward to meeting you all!
