Hello all, not new to lasers, but new to building

I decided to join this forum because it seemed like such an excellent wealth of information, but I also wanted to be able to ask some questions. I recently came into acquisition of an original PS3 blu-ray laser assembly(not a replacement) and I wanted to build a laser out of it. However, I'm not quite sure where I should look because there are just so many variations. I want to build a portable laser out of this diode and possibly wire it so I can have a choice of using the red and violet laser separately that is built into the diode. (I'm fine only making it so I can run the blu-ray laser though) However, I can't seem to find a good guide on the actual parts I need to put this thing together. I just ordered the Aixiz housing that I know I'll need for it, and I'm pretty sure I'll need a 9v lithium battery for this thing and an LM317 to control the spikes, a 47 ohm resistor, but as to what else I'll need I'm not really sure. So far I've only found a few guides that give me an idea on how the pointer should be made.

Any tutorials or pages that you can think off the top of your head would be of great help, I don't want to go screwing up my new (free) diode. I look forward to contributing!

Thanks everyone, hopefully I'll be able to get going on my new laser. I've been really obsessed with building one because my mom recently lost my green laser pointer that I let her borrow for a weekend, and I've been mourning it's loss. I payed 200 bucks for that thing and I had it for nearly 7 years.
